Sad. Sore. Determined.

I need help (again!) pretty please ....

Today is only w1r2, and I’ve been looking forward to it since my first run on Tuesday! I woke up this morning with a tender kind of pulling feeling in my groin(?) it’s in between my inner thigh and groin anyway.

I assumed that it was just a bit tight and the warm up and run would take the pain off and help me loosen it up. Instead I got 8 mins in and had to stop. Walking isn’t too painful but the running minutes really hurt 😔

I was so determined to do something that I carried on for 30 mins walk instead. Now I’m aware of it, like a dull ache but walking didn’t exacerbate it like running did.

It’s not a running injury, I’ve been fine all week, I can only think I pulled something up there straddling a bench yesterday evening!

What can I do about this? I’m determined to keep running, and just wondering what kind of injury this sounds like and how to treat it (ice, heat, painkillers, rest, stretches... I have no idea!)

Thanks as always you lovely lot.

Im no expert but I would ice it an sorry to say rest a few days and if you go back to run, only continue if the pain is not there. If youve pulled something it will just aggravate it. I know how frustrating it is!! Injury is my middle name sadly!

It’s been years since I woke up with a tender pulling in the groin 😂

You did the right thing turning it into a walk... maybe you stretched it too much on that bench, rest a couple of days and see how it is.

Haha ooh er!

Think I’ll be okay to do another walk tomorrow just to keep mobile? Thanks for the advice

Yes, keeping it moving is probably the best... I have a couch day every week or two for old time’s sake, and it’s a struggle setting off again the next time out.

Nice to hear you were looking forward to the run! It will still be there waiting for you, no rush.

Perhaps best to stick with walking until you feel good doing regular activity and treat the first run back as a “we’ll see” kind of thing... go back to walking if it’s still tender. Pushing through pain usually leads to a more serious set back.

Thanks for the tip! :) it’s very tempting to push through but I don’t want to ruin things for a longer period of time!

Don't laugh, but I did something that sounds the same when we were on holiday, kicked a ball and then later on fell over a suitcase trying to go over it (we were in a caravan, so no room to go around it!). It's annoying!

Mine disappeared after about a week, but I was a bit daft and did a run (W1) and kept on walking around as normal on holiday (so quite a bit of walking), as it didn't hurt as much when doing a forward action. NOT something I would now recommend as it probably meant a few extra days of discomfort.
