Today’s w8r2 was horrible! And I realised how slow I am when I was overtaken by many other joggers. Not sure I’ll reach 5k in 30mins any time soon ☹️

You have done amazingly well getting to the stage you are at 🏆

First, please don’t compare yourself with other joggers, they may have been running a lot longer than you. Secondly you’ve obviously forgotten how far you’ve come in such a short period of time, remember W1R1? Try & focus on your positive achievement rather than on what you call “horrible“ Thirdly the smart pace is between a 🐌 &🐢. There’s no such thing as too slow. If you run to time rather than distance you’ll take the pressure off yourself. C25K will give you the tools to achieve 5K but for most, this is after they have graduated. Give yourself a break & be proud of what you have achieved thus far. Your doing fab👍🏻

Thanks for the pep talk, I needed it today. You’re right, at w1r1 I never thought I’d get this far and I have! Next run Tuesday with a much more positive attitude!

in theory i ran at 5mph yesterday and i did 4k that was 30 mins so i reckon it would take you about 36mins to do 5k at 5mph ish

First, a huge well done for getting out there and doing your run - it takes enormous determination when it’s like that. 😃

A “horrible” run can happen for lots of reasons e.g. were you very tired or short of sleep? Are you going down with a bug? Were you under hydrated? These grotty runs appear occasionally, ( I had one myself yesterday, so I really sympathise) but as you progress they will become a very small proportion of all your runs.

Your speed is irrelevant, what matters is that you are at the running. You will gradually speed up without even trying to as you become more experienced and you can work on speed later if you really want to. I am slow runner-not very much faster than my brisk walking pace-but what matters to me is that I putter along gently, enjoy it, (well really it’s a mix of enjoy & tolerate😂) & then reap the many benefits. I plan to build up the time I run for & allow speed & distance to look after themselves!

Good luck for your next run, it will probably much better than the last one. 😀

All that we can do, as novices, is to compare ourselves to ourselves, and measure our progress over time. As a matter of fact, that is what elite athletes do too!!! You have come on leaps and bounds in only 8 weeks, now that is something to be very proud of! 👏

Zoemac I know that feeling too. I am on W8 r3 which I should do later today so we are at the same stage. I run in a busy park and have had many joggers lap me. But I don’t care anymore. The fact you are out there doing it is amazing not how fast you can go. Just remember how far you have come. Keep looking ahead at that podium which is so near. Look forward to seeing your podium post.

Took me 5 more months to get sub 30 ParkRun! Don’t worry about others. They were all beginners once 👌🏽

Same. I’m slow. But we’re out there doing it and we’re lapping everyone who’s sitting home on their bum!!!
