The toxic 10 was toxic, in a slightly uphill sort of way. I was expecting the whole thing to be easier as it was a cooler, grey evening, but actually it wasn’t cool, the air is still warm. I set off too fast, then slowed, but speeded up at the end (with a concerted effort to bring my average pace down), made easier by being on the downhill. Feel like I worked hard. Face is bright pink with exertion, which, luckily matches the the fluorescent pink flashes on my running shoes. It is nice to have a matching outfit 😊

Great stuff, nice self coaching to get that pace back under control. Was there ice cream though???

If you really want to speed up you need a methodical training regime, not just "speed up at the end" You might find this FAQ post useful reference healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Thank you, I’ll have a read later. I was aiming for negative splits. I’m aware that I always set off too fast, even though I think I’m going really slowly. I’ve sort of accepted that it’s unlikely I’m ever going to reach my goal of a 30min 5km. Just once would be nice, but unlikely. I’m just trying to keep up my fitness by running regularly. I love the feeling of being fit enough just to go out there and do it. And joining running buddies at Parkrun is always fun. The faster you run, the higher up you can be in the breakfast queue at the cafe 😊

You were hard to keep up with at the start of a parkrun!

We could always give our order to Mr RunaroundSue of course!

Yes at the beginning, but unfortunately not at the end. It’s that starting off too fast thing. Good plan, I like it. We’ll do that. Give the order to the fastest running buddy 👍 I hope to be back at Parkrun soon. Haven’t wanted to mix with too many folks til my bubble person was through open heart surgery and recovering well. Which he is. Phew, it was a bit scary hoping he wouldn’t go pop before getting called in for the op.

We were in a similar situation, still refusing to go in a pub/restaurant... a cafe at parkrun will be my first toe in the water there, hopefully the weather will be good and I can avoid having to eat in.

Good to here the bubble guy is well on the road to recovery.

Oh my days I had a similar experience for the exact same run!! Had to change pace multiple times for this run to get through it. But I guess experiencing that struggle and persevering results in an improvement in fitness that is more significant than when you are doing a run thats easier/more comfortable.

It’s been a while since I’ve run up a hill. Note to self: must run up hills more often. Different muscles apparently.

Hills are great... and the running up them does truly pay off. I use mine to warm up, and when I think they used to be a real dragon. Had to smile yeterday, Strava commented on one setiion of my run yesterday and called me ,Hill Sprinter, I'll take that :) x

Ah you ran up a hill my bad. Haha I struggled even on flat ground.

Not sure I should call it a ‘hill’ really. It wasn’t flat, but it’s the sort of hill you don’t notice isn’t flat in a car 😄

I'm discovering lots of hills, that I never noticed in the car 🤣 some I didn't even notice walking, but I certainly notice every incline when running 🤣

Amazing what a different perspective running gives you.

Fashion statement on the move Impressive It is odd, the toxic ten... sometimes there, sometimes not. Often I find it comes when you least expect it too, and with me, when I was actually running more. it sometimes lasted a lot longer than 10 minutes! But, you ran, enjoyed ? and that's great!

Always enjoy the achievement, and love being fitter. Often need to run to fetch the car, and it’s great when it isn’t a worry because it’s a distance I know I can cover.
