Morn I’m 51 and 20st and on wk6, I had same Q when I started. Take your time, I use the running method advocated by Prof Tanaka, on you tube (i will post it on for you), this is less stress on joints esp knees but you still get the same workout. A proper warm down ie hamstring and calf stretches is essential after last walk. Take ur time is the mantra! Happy running 🏃‍♂️ Toby

Thanks Toby! I will get started slowly and take my time, I am also going to start Tai Chi on You Tube to help with the stretching too as well as your suggestion, thanks again.

Lots of folk on here carrying some unwanted extra weight.. so...please check this post out first.

Then, the mantra is slow and steady... you hear it all the time. It works. Try to land lightly and breathe as you do normally.

Link this programme with a really healthy eating regime and you are in a winning situation. This is not a weight loss plan, and you may or may not lose weight.. some folk do, some not. But you will feel fitter, stronger and healthier..:)

Well done you!

Welcome to the forum.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

There is no defined safe weight to start the process, but the advice you have been given by GTTOBS is wise if you bear in mind that the impact of running puts the equivalent stresses of more than twice your weight through your legs on each stride.

To minimise impact stay slow, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill and wear proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop.

Enjoy your journey.

Also 16 stone and managing this. The main thing to remember is not to rush at it. I’m on my seventh repeat of week 1, gradually building up my stamina. Once I can confidently jog the whole running time I’ll know I’m ready to move on. Getting out there at a snail’s pace is so much better than not getting out at all ! Enjoy your journey 😀

I do run with my dogs a little anyway so hopefully I will have a good start thanks.

Dogs are great for getting people out and about - and you know you’re not starting completely from scratch, which helps. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Happy running 😀

Hey there, I’m 5’81/2” and I weighed 15st 10lb on w1r1 and am now at w9 r2 completed and weigh 8lb less which at approximately 1lb per week is an ideal weight loss regime, so I am informed. Resting heart rate at 61bpm so pretty good news there too all credit to the creators of this wonderful program. Have courage, develop the confidence and self-belief and run at your own pace and you will succeed here, I’m positive.

I'm 18.5 stone. I ran for nearly an hour yesterday. So yes, you can do this.

18 stone, feel it on the legs but I do warm down stretches and a long bath after running and take the necessary rest days! Keep going
