So I finally tried the C25K app yesterday and am very disappointed with myself that I couldn't manage to finish the first session! I only managed 4.5 minutes of jogging and my ankle started hurting. I was going to try again tomorrow but my leg is really hurting today please tell me it gets easier!

I would suggest doing the next outing as all walking - to strengthen that ankle. (Once it feels ready)
Increase your pace whilst still walking which will also help raise your heart rate.
And in a week or so throw in a slight run in one section. Then two etc. you'll have it nailed in no time & probably end up doing better than you'd ever thought possible.
Keep motivated , look after that ankle, ice it regularly.
I read another post where someone was doing the C25K but doing steady walking and then very brisk walking as a way of improving fitness before starting to do walk - run...
Meantime pat yourself on the back for giving it a go- yes it really really does get easier. The programme is magic 😀
The walking approach is an interesting idea. I've thought of reversing a bit through the c25k programme to a point where I can manage to race-walk it, back up to my hoped for graduation level. It might be good to mix one's training like that at some point, instead of doing more and more running. I'll be interested to see how anyone's experiments with walking go - especially as far as hurts/ injuries work out.
Thank you all that is good advice to try walking, I was thinking I could do that on the way to work tomorrow! I'll see how I get on and let you all know!
Don't run if it hurts. I agree start with walking and increase speed of that. Check your shoes support you, poor shoes could have caused the pain I don't know how fit you are and how heavy you are but both those could also have a bearing on pain and how easy you find week one ! Ice and rest for pain and gradually work back into it, I promise the plan works and you will never regret doing it !!
Thank you for your reply! I'm still struggling a bit today, my leg hurts a fair bit behind my knee and I feel stiff down that side. I'm hoping I feel better tomorrow so I can try the walking. I'm probably about two stone overweight still but have lost 21 pounds so I'm starting to feel better so thought I'd give this a go I've got some running shoes from Decathlon that are very comfortable so not sure it's those but I'm new to this! I'll keep trying
Did you manage to get out for your walk/fast walk session?
If you did, how did it go?
There is no 'disappointment' in getting out and doing something rather than not going out and doing something.
We are our own harshest judges. Don't let that put you off. There's no right way or wrong way, just your way. No medals or competition.
You managed 4.5 minutes of jogging. Well done, if you are like me that is more than you have probably done since school. That is a success not a failure.
The key mantra on this site is go sloooooow. Good luck.
Thank you for your reply I haven't managed to get out and try a walking session I'm afraid. I've been limping around all week with pain in my right leg I did get my bike out yesterday and rode 15 miles round trip to my Grandparents and my leg actually feels better today, I think I may be ready to try again
I will try again, I wont let it beat me, I think it'll be good for my losing weight as I seem to have hit a wall as far as that's concerned!
I know that I didn't do any stretching, that probably didn't help and maybe I tried to jog faster than I should! Oh you're right I haven't done any jogging or running since school apart from running for the bus..
