This may seem like a stupid question.. but what will I need to keep up running through the winter? Waterproof and probably long sleeve etc, any recommendations of what or where to get it?

Depends on you really. I wear the same gear all year round. If its really cold I may add a hoodie, but I quickly lose that as I warm up fast. Its not a problem for me as I tend to loop around where I live so I just pop it on my garden wall and carry on.

As for the rain - that depends on who heavy it is. If its quite fine I will just get wet. I get wet with swaet anyway and a weather proof anorak just locks this in.

Mountain warehouse do some good deals on running gear.

No stupid questions on here. (Well not many).

When the temperature drops to single figures I change to a long sleeve top. You can always push the sleeves up. Easy ways to adjust temperature are a buff, hat, gloves. Windproof jacket if it'sgetting severe. Be prepared to be a bit chilly until you warm up.

What’s a buff?

Sort of stretchy neck tube thing. Not to be confused with running in the buff.

That’s more a summer activity

Long sleeve running hoodie with thumb loops so you can pull sleeves down over hands I soon get too warm wearing gloves, top can be unzipped for cooling or taken off and tied around waist, a pair of running trousers or leggings, as it gets really cold, down towards freezing and below a hat and a buff, some wear shorts all year round.. layering is the way to go, make sure it's breathable though..

Where do I begin.....?

Head band or running beanie ( sometimes both if it's very frosty)

Long sleeved running top

Long sleeved running hoodie

Full length leggings

Some long running pants (sports direct do some really comfortable, pull on,fast drying pants.

Gloves.

It takes me nearly as long to get ready as it does to complete the run 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Lol, and then as long again to peel them all off after!

Compression wear... Quite easy to put on but a pig to peel off when it gets wet. 😬

I’ve got my running leggings, wear either a short sleeved running top with a light bright pink jacket, or a long sleeve top which is a little thicker.

I have my trainers and running socks, also invested in a hat and gloves. Also running 😂 I went a little mad with the Sports Direct Sale... I bought all my most recent stuff to ensure I’m seen at night.

Also have some flashing pink reflectors to wear around my wrists oh and a bum bag :)

Layers.

Compression base layers do a great job when he temperature drops.

Gloves and a buff are also essential.

I did by a windproof jacket last year but have only run in it once or twice.

Agreed. Easy to take layers off if you get warm. Not so easy to add if you left them at home!

3 of your replies have mentioned a “buff” but I’ve never heard of it. Do runners have their/our own language?

Jell6 profile image

It's a long, tubular, stretchy, bit of fabric, that can be worn in various ways.

Headband

Scruncy

Scarf

Balaclava......

You can wear it around your neck, but pull up over your nose and breathe through it in cold weather .

I wear one as a headband, to keep earbuds in place, and my hair from blowing all over my face 🤗

Wow that sounds amazing, maybe like a multi purpose snood?

Can be useful, check on Amazon, there are various brands, I think buff could be a brand name.

I got mine from an outdoor outlet for about £5.00😊 ( not called buff!)

I was just coming to ask that. I’ve no idea what a buff is either

Nike outlets are a brilliant place to find running gear if there is one near you

I recommend finding a pay as you go gym. Hopefully you won't need it. But it's good to have as a back up.
