Week 6 Run 2 - the weather's vile so rather than tackle the hills straight out of the front door, for the first time we drove down to the canal and ran the two 10-minute sessions quite comfortably... So why am I still only managing 4k in the time allowed? I can only assume it's because I'm fat and old
Still only 4k: Week 6 Run 2 - the weather's vile... - Couch to 5K
Still only 4k
Oh my gosh Sykesy64, some people aren't even doing 4k running 30 minutes when they graduate, most are not covering 5k. The design of the programme is to get you running 30 minutes, bit of a misnomer. Don't worry about the distance or pace until after graduation, even though it sounds like you're plenty fast!
You’re doing so well and completing the runs. It doesn’t matter how far you run/walk. The important part is how long your legs are working for. They’re developing into running legs! If you get hung up on the distance and push too hard to achieve it, you’ll get injured.
Only around 10% of people on here achieve 5k at graduation. Not me for starters!
So carry on as you’re doing, and enjoy yourself. 😀👏👏
Dont beat yourself up too much! I finished C25K in May, and have kept up running 30 minutes 3 times a week. I cover 4.2K in that time, not 5K, but I'm happy with that!
As others have said. It's the time not the distance. I'm still not sub 30 for 5k.
.. it's a long term goal.. well done for getting to wk 6! Not long till graduation podium!
My in ear coach says “you’re running to a time, run slow. Running fast is only useful when it brings the finish faster”
This programme is all about running slow and building endurance... it’s a good skill to have... in fact it is one of the main ways of becoming faster in the future.
The other piece of advice I was always given is “add endurance or speed but never both”. As virtually every run is geared to add endurance then you shouldn’t look to also add speed.
So, you’re setting yourself up perfectly for post grad when maybe one in five runs will be about speed, maybe less.
You’re doing great... keep it at comfortable pace until post grad.
Don't worry! Three months since graduation and I'm running 5k in about 42 mins and so happy with that. I'm 1 and a half mins a k faster than graduation. I'll never run 5k in 30 mins
My husband who hasn't run for 15 years just ran 5k in 32 mins on his second run. He's a natural runner!! I hate him a bit!!!! It's not natural for me but I love it! 👟👟😁
