Is this a good time?

I'm [supposed to be] at W6R1, but I ended up just running a straight 2.85K in 15:48. Is that a decent pace? I couldn't continue with distance or time due to a rapidly descending fog - still here this morning - and the highland beasties coming down off the moor. They can be very belligerent!

Those guys look like they mean business! I think you made the right call to avoid them and the mist. Not sure about the pace- mine is very slow or very very slow!

in reply to Monicarun

They have young too, which makes them even angrier... one or two I can avoid, but when there are 20 or so...

One of those behind you would keep you "moooving"🐂

Sorry, someone had to say it!

What a beautiful place.

It is an amazing place. 364 square miles of wonderfulness... I was lucky enough to be the contracted photographer for the National Park Authority too.

Yeah... I’d not want to annoy those ladies!

Pace is good... slow it if you need to to get through the runs.

in reply to UnfitNoMore

Thanks for the reply. I was not unhappy with the pace, but I wasn't sure if it was good, bad or indifferent. I can run more slowly, but I was quite happy running at that pace. I'm not expecting a huge increase in my speed, but the length of the runs/my ability will [hopefully] improve as time goes on...

The ladies [is that the correct noun for such angry beasties?] were encouraging a faster pace... but I held firm in my resolve.

It’ll all come together for sure... stamina first then grow that and boost pace after... but you’re way under 30 minute 5k pace, which is fast for us guys!

in reply to UnfitNoMore

Thanks. Not too shabby for a very nearly 55-year-old!

PS. My legs are fine today too! No aches or pains...

That’s cool... mine are wanting to go out there... they have to wait though.

That's a pace of 5:32 (it takes 5:32 to run 1 km). If you sustained it, that would give a 5km time of 27:43 which by the standards of this forum is pretty fast.

But realistically the actual speed or pace doesn't matter. You just need to be slightly quicker than an angry cow running after you with her horns down.

in reply to MarkyD

Thanks. I doubt I could keep up the pace for a full 5K yet, but maybe one day. I'm more interested in my distance than the time, so I need to work on increasing my stamina and enjoying even more countryside.

Woah!! So beautiful, but not ones I’d want to mess with!! I think they’d make me pick up the pace in an about turn!! 😱 😵😬

Your pace is more than decent to me!! Fantastic even! Well done. 😁😁❤️

in reply to Fabulous450

If I'm honest, my pace was more dictated by the rapidly closing mist. The pic wasn't taken yesterday, but a while ago. Last night the mist was too swirly [I believe that is the correct meteorological term!] to see a great deal - just mooing shapes with big horns.

Aah I see! But at least you what’s behind those moo’s in the mist! 😉❤️

I'd say pace is great, and fab photo too!

They are great, So characterful, and when they have been graving they lift their shaggy heads with great ribbons of bracken dangling from their horns. My dog hates them though!

OOOOoohhh Highland cattle... my favourite kind of cows! The calves are just so cute. The horns and those death glares they're giving you are less cute... but gosh are they stunning against that backdrop. I'm in Canada and we don't have many of those here, I've only seen them at agriculture/farming shows.

Amazing pace if you ask me!

in reply to Amandana

Thanks. They live on Dartmoor in the deepest South West and they are a little protective of their offspring. We also have belted galloways joining in, just to add to the fun. Enjoy Canada, and I may make it over one day to visit my cousin.

OH my second favourites! I love belted galloways too.. the Oreo cookie of cows.

in reply to Amandana

I must admit that I have never looked at them in that way! Now, each time I see one [every day!] I will see Oreos wandering over the moor... how bizarre. I have some pics on file somewhere.

And now how to wrap your mind around dipping a cookie that looks like a cow in a glass of.... milk! lol!

My usual morning runs are befuddled enough as I try and coordinate my uncooperative legs and arms, thank you very much! I fear my brain may explode next time I see a belted beast!
