First run!

I have just got back from my first run and I’m so annoyed that I couldn’t complete it. I have asthma which is well controlled and doesn’t affect me except when I run. I did 6 of the 60 sec runs which I know is a good start. Do any fellow asthmatics have any advice?

i have asthma and finding the running is helping opening the lungs/airways more.. carry your inhaler with you.. if it's too much.. build it up.. start with more brisk walking to get the heart rate up without impacting your breathing.

Thank you I will make sure I don’t push myself too hard I think I just need to build it up. I took my inhaler before I went out and took it once during at around run 4. My breathing is so erratic I hope it improves.

Also, highly recommend the Headspace app.. keep you calm which will in turn help control your breathing better.. and not stress and then your airways tighten.

Great job first time out. You’ll probably find this helps your asthma over time. If cold air triggers your asthma more, consider a buff.

Great thank you. I thought I’d best get out while the weather is still warm, so I will make sure I invest in a buff for winter.

Top work! 6 of the 60 second runs is pretty much all of them eh? You'll be smashing that week in next to no time! I'm on week 3 and always carry my inhaler round the run with me. I find that if I take 2 deep long puffs 5 minutes before going out the door to start the run, I can just about always finish the run without having to take additional puffs. I run at an increasingly chilly 9am, and by taking the run nice and slow I find I'm not taking in any more gulps of cold air than is necessary. Good luck and keep going, you're doing great!
