Prior to my summer vacation, I had not been running as frequently as I had planned too. I was worried that during my trip, I would take my foot even further off the pedal and was worried about the impact on my progress. However, I managed to run once every other week of a month long vacation despite the heat and distraction caused by the island's beauty and activities that are Barbados! Anyhow, I returned home just over a month ago and on my return just about motivated myself to get out and managed 5k. Once again, my motivation slipped and a 3 week gap appeared. I'm pleased to say, I got myself back out again today and ran 6k (I've only managed this distance twice since graduating in April). The first 5k surprisingly did not reveal any significant reduction in stamina and I felt fresh, which pleased me hugely. The last 0.5k I'd say I overdid it and I finished with slightly sore knees. This is only the 3rd time this has happened, the first being after W1 R1 and the run before today's. I stretched after my warm down and have to say that overall, I am very pleased that I persevered and got out there as I had backed out the last 2 weeks. I'm going to re-commit to running at least once a week and, thereafter, hope to increase it to two. Given it takes me 40 minutes to run 5k, I think two 40 minute runs as opposed to three 30 minute runs should suffice not least as squeezing in three runs is not easy. I'm starting to realise that whilst I may not be running as frequently as I would like, the fact is, once I miss 2 weeks I start to really focus on no further slippage and get myself out there. It seems running has become part of my lifestyle and long may it last and in the future become truly embedded!
