as well as doing Couch to 5k, I have started LCHF way of eating, would you say ill be ok doing both? I want to lose weight which I can feel coming off in inches but not the scales but I just wondered if it would be healthy to do both, should I just go with it and see how I feel?

One of my mates fuels running purely on fat... he’s different but it works... and boy does he enjoy race fuelling for a marathon! You’re also fuelling your body as a diabetic runner would have to... and there’s several of them do marathons. Carb fuelling gets all the press, but it’s not the only way. From a weightloss point of view, fats are filling so it can help a lot. Again it’s counter intuitive as a fat loss regime, but actually from a digestive point of view it makes a lot of sense. You’ll feel it pretty quickly on long runs if there’s an issue... for 5k you shouldn’t even need to replenish the glycogen in the muscles so I’d think it would be absolutely fine.
Oh that's really interesting how some do it from fats and some from carbs. Ive had gall bladder issues in the past and have found too many carbs can trigger it so I feel as a weight loss and digestive aide LCHF seems the way forward, I also have high BP and on meds for it, its a family trait unfortunately, I'm not seriously overweight size 14 and 5.5" but he wont take me off them until my BP goes a lot lower, I'm hoping the running and weight loss will do that, along with the stopping smoking
I’m a low carb, mod protein, high good fat runner and am training for my first marathon. If it is suiting you so far I would say you should be fine doing both.
Well done on both counts. Starting both at once means listening very carefully to your body. If just starting on LCHF and you have eaten lots of “bad” carbs until now you may get “carb flu”, it’s something you have to tough out. I started mainly eating this way 2 years ago and have used the BSD website and forum for info (Dr Michael Mosley set it up). It is mainly for weight loss and T2 diabetes improvement, which I don’t need, but is still useful. Eating too much protein means it gets converted to glucose, the same as carbs.
Thank you AnnieW55, that’s really helpful. I’m a real carnivore and having meat at every meal, I think I’ll try and find a lower protein meal for one of my meals each day, it’s hard though as carbs are little too lol
I guess I’ll figure it out eventually.
I’ve had to listen to my body really, lost dad to lung cancer in Feb this year, he’d also had heart attacks and seizures, hence me trying to obtain lung and heart health by doing this and stopping smoking. BIG changes for my body
I’m doing both too. Started LCHF about four months ago and got on well and am on week 4 of C25K now. My weight loss has stopped abruptly since I started the running but I think it’s because I’m building muscle (my legs have started beefing up especially) and I’ve only just started slowly losing again. But I have lost inches definitely. I am also on BP medication and have seen a definite improvement in my readings and my HBA1C has gone down since LCHF so i am also hopeful that I will be able to reverse the type 2 soon and reduce the BP meds. It’s certainly all heading in the right direction for me so 🤞 it will for you too! 😊 Good luck.
Wow DianeU sounds like we are the same..!!! I don’t have Diabetes but the BP is an issue. Fingers crossed I’ll see an improvement soon too. I’ve started to see my shape change and inches lost, not weight though which I’m happy with. I just need to get my macros right so I’m eating correctly
Take a peek at the Michael Mosely (Trust me I'm a Dr..on the tv...) 8 week sugar free eating regime...my husband is type 2 diabetic.(genetic not diet related)...I am not..but we use it with tweaks...as part of our healthy eating regime..which is Mediterranean style .. We do not fast though...there are some great recipes. Low carb and not fussy or time consuming recipes..his wife..also a Dr has written a recipe book to go with his book.
I have a history of heart disease on my paternal side..so am doing all I can to stay heart healthy. Husband's BP is brilliant and his meds have not been upped in 10 years.😊
At my well woman check up a year ago.. all my results equalled those of a 33 year old.I am now 68....but the genetic link makes heart problems an issue.
Yep. Both the type 2 and the BP issuea are in the family like yourself! Damn those genes. Anyway good luck with the new regime I’ve found that My fitness pal is good for tracking what you’re eating. I ignore the calories and just try and stick to around 70-80g of carbs a day and all is good. 👍🏻
