Hey guys, WK1, R3 but sadly today I only walked. No syncing, dead batteries.... anyway, I felt I couldn't go it alone without Laura as I have no idea when to what, so my sis M (who arrived yesterday) and I went for a 30 minute brisk walk 6 laps of the field this morning and we have just done the same this evening. I'm not too disappointed as I have been focused on doing something. I hope to get running this week but my stamina has never been a strength of mine, not even in my skinny days. I was always the short sprinter, hurdles, never the long distance runner and I find that when I run, I feel I'm going too fast but I don't know how to run slowly. Does that make sense??
Walk A Little...: Hey guys, WK1, R3 but sadly... - Couch to 5K
Walk A Little...
I think as your body adjusts slowly you will find it a bit easier and your stamina will build. I also think you develop the technique for going slowly as you keep going. I am sure everyone has had a set back but the important thing is to not over think it and to get back on the horse so to speak :- D
Well done. And good on you for going for a good walk even if you couldn't do the run - a far better option than just staying home Batteries will be charged and everything will be ready for next time
Try not to worry too much, I'm sure you will be fine
Well done for getting out there , youre still lapping everyone on the couch ! xxx
Well done for getting out & not giving up because something went wrong. Like you my stamina has always been rubbish but I am listening to the people on here who keep repeating to trust in the programme. It seems to have worked for others, so it should for us
It does.... it does... I was a sprinter and a hurdler...although.. so long ago that it did not impact on my running now But... I know where you are coming from!
I have been known to hurdle in some of my runs this last month or so!!!!
( Check my post... Do silly things!)
It will come...just follow the programme, try to be patient and when you have graduated you can find the pace that is yours...the stamina does come... it is the point of the programme...I can run very steadily for over an hour now
I find my pace now, ideally, is 160 to 165.... now too, I am adding some sprint finishes to my runs or after my runs.. slower than when I was 16...but not bad for an old one!
So... well done you and persevere!
The programme works. It really, really does. It will build your stamina bit by bit if you follow it. When I read this, I was doing week two and honestly thought, well it won't work for me. But it has - graduation week next week! And running too fast? I know exactly what you mean, I had to be told over and over to slow down. I didn't think it was possible to go as slow as I do and still be running - but it is. That stamina that you need will come. It just will. Gradually.
Keep on going. Everyone here is right behind you
Good job with getting as the others have stamina and fitness will come you just need to get yourself organised and then everything will just slot into place
Hi How-to
When you do that day3 you will smash it. Yes I agree it is really difficult to slow down, it sort of goes against why we would usually run, but once you've mastered that bit, then the programme really does become easy. Keep at it you're so worth it.
Can't say I have the same problem, I go so slow I sometimes feel I am not moving! But as everyone else has said, this programme works and you will find the right pace for you, keep going it will be worth it. I never thought I would run, never did as a child (so long ago now!), so chances of an oldie like me who is overweight doing it I thought was just a dream, but I can say I have 2 runs left till graduation, and I am loving it,
I am hoping my speed will come in time, but for now, I just want to be able to be comfortable in running for 30 minutes.......then I hope the rest will follow,
Keep at it and good luck.😄
Great walk you had, it is just preparing you for your 1/3, Laura will be there to encourage you on to complete it. Looking forward to hearing about it soon.👍🏼🙋🏼
Good work getting out for a walk. Walking is great for non-running days. Just keep conscious of the fact you need to be going slowly. At the end od every song perhaps, just remind yourself to step in down a bit, even if you feel fine as you'll run out of puff towards the end. Your stamina will build and you'll be running for 30 minutes soon enough!
