ITS MY HILL. Just got back from beating this monster, and boy did it feel good! (To put it into perspective, I hate balancing my car on the clutch on this hill. I worry I'll burn it out its that steep.)
I've not been particularly disciplined over the last couple of weeks, what with starting a new job. I'm working 12 hour shifts, walking around six miles a day. (I work in care.) I've also been picking up every bug going, and I've piled on the pounds recently so my self esteem has taken more than a little bruising.
(I'm sensitive, I can't help it.)
So I've been planning to get my shoes on for a few days, and this morning I decided today was the day. And so, we went shopping. And then for a pub lunch. But for once, I exercised a little restraint, left a quarter of my pizza and had a glass of pepsi. And then we got back, and I found a game i had bought was online only. My only connection to t'interweb is on my phone. Gloom loomed...
So, dressed all in mourning black, (it's slimming!) I put on my tubigrips, connected my redphones, put on my FLOURESCENT soled trainers and glasses-keeper-oners and flew the nest. (Slowly, I didn't want an injury before I got started.) And went the wrong way! I actually started my usual warm up walk... Duh!
I walked away from my hill (as shown above, the one that is now MINE.) so that I could get through the toxic ten/get a good run up. Aaand I timed it perfectly. As I began the slight descent to the bottom of this hill, the toxicity faded off and even though I wasn't hitting that running nirvana we sometimes get, I was running smoothly, like a robot with all the levels in the green. It felt good. And then I began the hill. Around 30 meters before the end you can see it begins and goes over a small hump backed bridge, and then I rounded onto this bad boy. I dropped my head and fixed a look of dogged determination on my face and ran to the top. Best thing was, I didn't even slow towards the top! I enjoyed the next three k or so, running past the local school and members club before nearing home and a bit more pepsi! It was a good run, and one I'll definitely do again!
Backwards next time though. It'll hurt more. π€
That's a mighty fine hill well done ... I'm still avoiding them as much as I can small inclines are bad enough π
The way I always saw it is that the more hills I do without adding actual distance, the longer I'll be able to run on a flat if I need to! I worked this theory out with the help of my specially trained team of smurfs. They wear lab coats - that makes them scientists.
Except for Dizzy smurf. He's an idiot.
Oh, and thank you! Yes, MY HILL is mighty fine! π
πππππ you have some very intelligent Smurfs there I must have a team of dizzy's π
My plan now is 2 30 minute runs plus one doing some hill work I need to do them for our local park run its mainly hills π±
Sounds good! Main thing is to not push too hard, gently gently is the way to go.
