Omg! Week one run one completed, tough but I did it, will I ever ever reach 5k?
Am I too old for this?: Omg! Week one run one... - Couch to 5K
Am I too old for this?
Of course you will, but just one run at a time. 😄
you didn't tell us your age, but the answer is inevitably "no you are not too old" and "probably you will reach 5K"
There are a couple of 74-75 year olds active on this forum and the Bridge to 10K and Marathon forums - and they started as 70+ year olds - and there was an 83 year old graduate a while back... need I go on?
Wow, thanks for that, I'm 55 years young loving life and just want to be healthier. Im not overweight but what happens if 2moro if I struggle to complete what's expected of me 😊
Well - a few things - answers to many questions are in the FAQ (in the pinned posts) - the most pertinent is "How to run C25K".
If you struggle, slow down, is the key thing! And always take a non-running day after each run day, on which you can do other non-impact exercise to build up your strength etc. And keep asking here if you have anything to ask!
No one is too old for this Redjogger. In 9 weeks you will have graduated from the C25K program, you don't need to be able to run 5k in 30 minutes, but as long as you can run for 30 minutes three times in week 9, then you will have graduated.
Week one run one is very tough. Well done getting it out of the way. Keep the pace slow and you’ll be fine. You’ll get to 30 minutes very quickly, that may bring 5k with it, but over 90% here don’t achieve the distance in 9 weeks. It’s about turning you into a fit and healthier you and a runner. Most work at and achieve 5k after completing the plan... many have gone on to 10k and beyond... so can you.
Thank you so..... much I totally need to be motivated and not be scared of failure 😊
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
You can only fail this plan by heading permanently back to the couch.
You are in control and progress at your pace. Do check out the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... for the best way to approach your runs.
Enjoy your journey.
Oh... and I almost forgot. I marshalled at junior parkrun this morning. One of the marshals is 74... he’s doing a half marathon next week... done several marathons including very much not flat ones in the lakes. He started running at 63!
Then there’s this amazing guy nhs.uk/conditions/hip-repla...
Failure is only something you can achieve by not trying. Keep trying and you will achieve.

Welcome.. did you check this post for Newbies out... ?
Forget the 5K...just concentrate on the now, not the next Just aim to get to the 30 minute runs, having had fun and injury free...
Don't know how old you are... but I am 68 There are loads of us, and many older than me too!
Just read in a reply that you are 55!!! You are a youngster!!!
Take it slow and take it steady... and if you struggle then slow down more... that is all it takes.... Trust the plan, believe in yourself and keep posting here for great support
Oh my, thank you so much for your positivity, this is just what I needed 😍
