Returned to the beginning of week 5 after trying to attempt w5r2 on Monday after 2 weeks of not running, l failed miserably. Today wasn’t easy, not least because l have to pass the cemetery & there’s no lighting 👻. First five minutes were a killer l can tell you!! The second 5 not so bad but l always get caught on the last section which is a steady incline ( l know it’s good for me as it builds stamina 🤣🤣)Not sure if I’m ready for run 2 this week, but shall give it a go. Happy running everyone 🤪
Week 5: Returned to the beginning of week... - Couch to 5K
Week 5
You’ll do great!
You’re ready... and you didn’t fail, you were on a comeback run to see where you were. Now you’re ready for it.
You'll be fine, just keep the speed down and enjoy it. 👍🐢
The problem l have when l try to run at a slower pace ( not that I’m fast) l kind of shuffle (got the picture 🦆or is that waddle lol) This may have caused my medial ligament strain, it’s not my natural stride either. I’m now using a more natural stride & TRY to slow that down
Keep pushing you will achieve I am sure
Well done! Smashed it - those first 5-10 minute gremlins visit us all. Pah, but we slay them! 💪
You will end up loving W5. My personal favourite, especially R3 (oh the elation!)
So bring on R2 - you will be fine! 👍💪👏😀🏃♀️
No f words please... Just keep it slow and very steady... the only way to complete this injury free and having had fun.
Just relax into each run and know that you are ready for it; slow , is different for all of us but, you can find a happy pace, even when moving slowly...Don't push too hard... this is for enjoyment not endurance.
You are doing fine
I just knew you’d say that Oldfloss 🤣🤣 Honest, l have your mantra in my head whilst running. Running with my natural gait is so much more easier. I just have to figure how to slow it down. I’m not fast (sorry l used the f word 😱) Appreciate l need a slower pace🐌🐢
Its is hard.... I use a C25K +podcast sometimes in a longer run and there are intervals of a slower pace in there.. I find it really tricky... my happy cadence is 165 to 170.... and anything slower, is something I need to concentrate on.... ! Soft shoe shuffle is the word
You will find your happy pace, ( maybe from Week 6 onwards, when the longer runs kick in... the pace that gives you the feeling that you can run for ever!
Thanks Oldfloss. I have no idea what my cadence is but will look at the podcast. I use to be a cross country runner in my youth (I’m now in my sixties) l think that’s part of my problem lol
I struggled with going slowly enough too, but when you get to the unbroken runs the penny drops that you really have to and you find a way. The first 20 minute run nearly killed me but that is the run that I learnt the most. I think I shortened my stride but am not positive.
I always find the first 5 minutes a struggle. 😨😣😭
I've read of the "toxic 10" but for me it's a "five to fight". My knees hurt, my shoes aren't tied right, I've got blisters coming, I don't have to do this, etc. I know to just keep going and I'll be alright but it's pretty much always the same.
Slow past the cemetery? Tricky, especially in the dark. 🧛♂️🧟♂️🧛♀️
I know lots of people run in time to music, but I find that I'm never happy with the speed of whatever track is playing. I now choose a playlist of various tempos and run at what feels right.
Good luck with the next run, don't let the gremlins get to you. 💪💪💪
Thanks sparkyjohn!! Blummin dark this morning, out at 05.30, don’t ask lol. I would have rather been running past the cemetery, instead it was a very very brisk walk 👻👻👻 It’s fine during daylight hours but hey, added bonus, l walked faster🤣 I’ve stopped playing music as the app has crashed a couple of times but may try the podcast once l get into longer runs As for the head gremlins, l tell them to do one🤣🤣
