Should have stayed in bed !

Felt quite pleased with myself this week....have been on holiday and managed to keep my running schedule going ( week 6 ). So while the rest of them were still in bed there I was pounding the tracks and paths past the pond, along the lane seeing all the wildlife enjoying some 'off-road' running for a change and feeling , I have to say , just a little smug.

Drive home yesterday ( dreaded M25 behaved itself) went well so I thought to finish the week with the 25minute monster run at my normál location , Dover seafront (it's nice and flat !) Warm up completed, Micháel setting me up , remembering to pace and breathe etc " I can do this " on a loop in my mind and off I went.

Then it all went wrong !! 5 minutes in and not feeling good, surely I can run this off and the first 5 mins I always the hardest so push through ...I can do this !! But today I just can't .....had to stop after 11 mins as there was nothing left in the legs and all my self motivation had got up and gone ! Time to accept that today was not going to work and re-think for another day.

Back to the car to get my water and a banana and then have a short warm down. I then sat on the bench and tried to work out what went wrong and when to try again. Feeling frustrated but accepting some days just don't work I got back to the car to drive home for breakfast only to find I had managed to lock my keys and phone in the car !!!

Much swearing and door tugging went on until a passing dog walker, sensing my frustration, asked if all was OK. I explained my predicament and asked if I could borrow a phone to call my wife to get our neighbour to drive down with the spare key.....I would not be a popular man as this was very early this morning but needs must etc Then Vic ( the dog walker ) came up trumps and offered to drive me home and back once I had the key to get in the car ....would still have to wake up my wife to get the spare key but I could cope with that.

To cut the story short, spare key was safely obtained, my keys and phone recovered, Vic profusely thanked ( Vic you are a super-star) and I am on domestic duties for the rest of the day!

Should have stayed in bed but it has reminded me that there are some fantastic people out there who will come up trumps when needed. And finally week 6 ?......we'll just have to give it another go!

Happy running everybody..

Wow tough start to the day. Don't worry about your run, some days you'll feel better than others, better to listen to your body and avoid injury and fatigue. Keep going you're nearly there!!

Thanks for your comments. Must admit felt very frustrated as I wanted to keep momentum going but you are right to say listen to your body...there is always another day. Still determined to graduate!

Hi

Sometimes it doesn’t go the way we want it and it can be really frustrating.

Like you my run didn’t go well yesterday & I was pretty frustrated even though I was doing the “never mind the next run will be better” talk in my head.

This morning I got up and thought” I’m doing this I’m having none of this silly nonsense carry on”. I got there and need to accept I’m going to have good and bad days.

Your doing well and ahead of me with the program. Keep your belief in yourself cause I know you can & will do this.

You’re certainly having one of those days. The 11 minutes do add to fitness and strength though, and sometimes that short run keeping the legs going helps the next run a lot.

Enjoy your duties!

Whenever my day goes badly I play this itunes.apple.com/gb/album/s... it’s not for the easily offended though!

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that! It helps me to build something positive from the experience...thanks!
