W4R1 - A stab in the chest and a faceful of flies

Well, that was different.

I’m not sure how best to describe this because it was about as hard as I expected but also harder but then surprisingly easy at the same time.

I guess what I’m saying is I did it and I didn’t die yet.

However I do have one minor health concern and I don’t know how worried I should be but I need to know: is it dangerous to inhale a bug? I only ask because near the end of my run I was hit in the face by a swarm of... something and I’m almost certain I inhaled one.

Apart from that I’d say it went pretty well. Had a bit of a late start because the boy has his first day of school tomorrow and I wanted to make sure he was ready for that before heading out. I followed my usual route along the footpath behind the houses, this time listening to Blondie. I’m a big fan so I was happy to find out that Parallel Lines suits running perfectly.

Footpath was uneventful, no kids out on a school night! I made my way down the steps and the five minutes began as I got onto the path.

It went well enough but I definitely thought it was nearly done before it was. That was unsurprising though, I knew it would be tougher and I got through it, a little out of breath but ok.

The park was almost completely empty apart from some people on a bench but no problem there. However, I think as it gets darker earlier I might have to give the park a miss for a while and stick to the footpath. I’ll miss it but it’s a really good place to get murdered.

Oh, I mentioned a stab in the chest, fortunately not a real one but after the second 3 minute run I did get that feeling. It wasn’t overwhelming but I got a little worried it might cut the final run short. Luckily it faded just in time as the last run began.

And weirdly enough, this 5 minutes felt easier than the first one. I guess my body is beginning to accept that I’m serious about this so it might as well let me, you know, within reason. I let it have McDonald’s again at the weekend so I guess I am sending it mixed messages.

Anyway I got through it, not before that swarm attack of course, and apart from a lot of sweat, a face literally ON FIRE and some flies possibly laying eggs in my lungs, I felt pretty awesome about it.

And just for fun, I ran for an extra 20 seconds at the end, just to finish the path I was on. I am (mostly) optimistic for the week ahead.

Now it’s time for a quick last minute shop for lunchbox stuff. There’s always something I’ve forgotten.

"I know a lady who swallowed a fly, that wiggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her" 😂

I'm sure you'll live to get the little fella to school tmrw!

Just did same run tonight, Jo Whiley told me 16 whole minutes of running completed. Chuffed indeed. My dog just breaking into a little jog too!

Good luck for the rest of the week. I hope we will trumpeting our W5 start next Monday !

Hey, I’m perfectly capable of jiggling on my own!

It’s a good run, I love how this is structured, it came reasonably naturally, with some effort of course, but I never could have run this far a few weeks ago.

I really can’t wait to be able to do the whole half hour, can you imagine what that must be like?

I think it was a guy called Burl Ives who sang that song!!, although there is another version by Loppity Loo.

Another added benefit of running outside - extra protein 😂

And half an hour running is just like your run today - only longer ☺️

Congrats on your run. Hope your boy has a good day tomorrow.

Thanks he liked pre-school so I’m sure he’ll be fine!

I look forward to having the stamina for half an hour of pure running. Not that long ago I would have struggled with half a minute.

My wk4 starts tomorrow I’m a little nervous but looking forward to it, hopefully I won’t run into any flies 😮

Well my advice is to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth!

I’m loving week 4 so far, it’s a big step up but a lot of fun and more manageable than you’d think.

I really hope so 😊

In through your nose and out through your mouth also stops runny nosey on cold days!

Guess you’d best swallow a spider now, to chase the fly!
