hi! Did you do Day 1 yesterday?

If so, you should read about why you need to take a repair day after each run day. In the FAQs ( healthunlocked.com/couchto5... ) among many other things there's a post about going too fast, which includes both during your run and also the idea that you need to let your muscles repair after impact activity (i.e. running) by taking a day off running after each run. You can use this day to do other non-impact exercise!

This way you'll be safer from injury and you'll find you progress more efficiently!

there is a bit in the faq and in a nice article linked within that explains that the feedback our bodies give us is mainly from the cardiovascular system - so our breathing and how our heartbeat feels. Plus our muscles tell us if they ache or hurt. But you can't feel how your tendons / bones are doing (and they strengthen very slowly) until something goes very wrong, and as you get fitter (which you will!) even your muscles won't hurt until you have exercised quite hard. You can't feel how quickly or slowly your micro tears in the muscles are healing (this is the process by which muscles get stronger). So I would not rely on 'feeling' fine as you don't really know until hidden damage becomes not so hidden.

The programme can take longer than 9 weeks, the big picture aim is to build a good habit! Do you have another exercise you can do in between running days? We would hate to see you get injured! Plus, other exercise can really help your running and contribute to whole-body fitness :). the NHS has a 'strength and flex' programme, for example?

sorry about the long comment!!
