I had 2 days off and today I ran 25mins straight for the first time

So I took 2 days off running and I hated it, so today it was really hard I didn’t feel like it, it was drizzling, I was tired, it was hard and my legs felt really heavy! I thought to myself what would David Goggins do? So I kept running and then I thought I am taught, strong, hard I can do this and I will! And I did!!! I ran 3.65km, 25 mins straight, no stops! It was my longest run so far! I’m proud of myself but I hope not to have to take 2 days off in a row again! The more I run the better I feel! Days off slow me down, I know I need them sometimes, but with my fitness background I know I can recover fast so I think I can run more than 3 days a week

What is your fitness background?

You may not have heard this before but "the only training you're benefiting from, is the training you're recovering from".

I lift weights for many years also do body weight training like pull ups and push ups and I used to do cardio before lockdown like running on treadmill, stationary bicycle I did classes like body attack and Zumba. I was working as a personal trainer so I was pretty much living a gym lol

I wish you luck.

I have met and heard of many personal trainers whose knowledge of the stresses imposed by running was dangerously minimal.

You will also have to accept that if you post "off piste" running plans on a forum dedicated to a tried and tested training plan, like C25k, that we will respond by pointing out that your approach is not recommended for others to follow.

Take care.

There is nothing wrong with taking 2 days off from running every week. In fact, for C25K beginners and new graduates we recommend it.

Congratulations on running non stop for 25 minutes, there are 4 /25 minute runs, if that was the first 25 minute run, congratulations, you are now OFFICIALLY a RUNNER.

I would certainly stick to the rest days , They are as important as the running days

You have now effectively done Week 6 Run 3 in Couch to 5k.

If you want to continue with this, the recommendation is three more 25 minute runs, three 28 minute runs and three 30 minute runs. This is exactly what C25K does in Weeks 7, 8 and 9.

Don't forget the rest days between. They are not negotiable at this stage. Running every other day is fine, but running on consecutive days is going to greatly increase your chances of injury.

The strong recommendation going forward is that you don't increase your distance or duration more than 10% in any one week, either counting totals over the week or comparing the longest run of each week.

Oh I see! Thank you for this info! That’s awesome!

I was a swimmer before I took up running, I swam 3 or 4 times a week, easily swimming up to 2 miles. I can only say that kind of fitness did not cross over into running in any way....

B est to follow the programme, everyone here has, and can confirm it works. It's only few weeks, why take risks with your safety?
