Can't believe I have got this far and 'touch wood ' have never had to stop. Very slow running π’ but hopefully this will improve π€. I don't want to jinx getting to the end. For me, the first 5 minutes are always a bit of a struggle but once I get my rhythm I'm ok. Does this bit get easier?
Good news - my local council (Wokingham) have laid rubberised paths around the local country park. (And lights!). Excellent to run on and countryside to admire - win, win!

Way to go. Many runners find it more difficult to get it all in gear than find it hard to complete, youβre in good company. It should become easier on the average day, but we all get days where itβs not perfect and it throws you, no matter how experienced.
You have experienced the toxic 10, that is the first 10 minutes of running, but in your case it's only the toxic 5, once your body gets used to running, after 5 or 10 minutes you get into a steady pace and as you say you get into a good rhythm, the rest of the run is fine and it does get easier, very slow running and at a steady pace is the name of the running game. Nice that your local council has rubberised the paths around the country park with lights, that will save you running along roads at night with no worries about traffic.
I'm in my 50s and wasn't doing any real exercise. I've lost weight and all my clothes are looser. And I feel great! Keep going, it is so easy to follow and the feeling of achievement is brilliant π€
Your council have made a great investment as I am sure that the track will be well used over the winter months
I am very anxious (about everything) and I panic at the start of every run because I struggle to find my rhythm and get my breathing right for the first ten to fifteen minutes but magically it all comes together and I relax & settle into a nice steady pace - it's an amazing feeling that I can't really describe but just love it!
Remember those three important little words. . . . Slow and steady . . . Best advice ever...not just for running!
