Blimey, never thought I would get to week four and running 5 minutes. I am starting to think of myself as a runner, especially as I have invested in gait analysis and some proper running shoes. Even got running socks ( never knew there was such a thing). Still find myself arguing with Michael Johnson on the app, grumbling that a light jog is probably overstating the speed I am going. I am finding the first 3 minute run very hard, is there something else I can do in the warm-up to get myself ready?

I found that the more briskly I did the warm-up walk, the better the run turned out to be. But the first few minutes are always a bit tough. At Week 4 run 2 you’re making good progress through the programme - we’ll done! 😀👍🏃‍♀️👏

Thanks Mike. Going to try a different route that takes me up a hill for the warm up.

My warm-up walk is up a hill. Nice shoes by the way!

Well done, I did W4R2 today, I find the first run a little tough but actually found today easier then R1. I found a very brisk walk definitely helps to start with.

I feel the same. I need to get new trainers! I like the feeling of being a proper runner too!!

Getting the right footwear has made difference, they are a bit heavier than my last pair but have more support and padding. The advice I had from running friends was the first time you get gait analysis go to a good running shop and get the right pair of sneakers. They will be pricey (mine were just over £100) but after that you will know what type of trainer to get and get them online much cheaper.

Good job! Warm up walk is good, but once warm you could pause, do a bit of something else, and then resume. Fast walk should be enough though.

I’ve recently graduated and still find the first 10 minutes of my run really difficult and want to give up around 12 minutes. Then somehow it starts to feel easier after that. Perhaps I’ll try the same and make my warm up walk more strenuous. Nice trainers rubysmiles

Thanks Nicky. Think my warm up walk has not been strenuous enough. Will try and power up the hill.
