So after a couple of weeks of C25K and lurking on here reading all your lovely posts and supportive comments I thought it’s time I said hello!
I did the programme once before and actually managed to bridge to 10K to complete the York 10K, but I didn’t touch my trainers again until now, 3 years later.
After recently losing the best part of two stone (and wanting to lose another two), I finally felt ready to try it all again. I’m still overweight so sticking to a healthy diet (you can’t outrun a bad one) and I know C25K might slow my losses down a bit (at least at first), but I’m hoping it will help with the inches. I also really want to get a bit fitter for my honeymoon in New Zealand in October this year. It’s not all about the scales!
I was diagnosed earlier this year with vitamin B12 deficiency. That diagnosis and the following treatment honestly changed my life. After years of feeling tired and fatigued for apparently no reason, I suddenly have the energy a 28 year old should have. So I’m putting this energy to good use and getting myself out on the roads again.
Had a great run this morning on W3R1. I usually run early evening after work so it was a nice change to be out on a quiet Sunday morning. Here’s to the rest of them!

Congrats - welcome back to it! Interesting you say about C25K slowing your losses? How's that work then?! I've been trying to eat less and more healthy and am (sort of) on the 5:2 diet, but fond I've not lost like a lot of other folk say they have done.
I’ve no idea! I’ve read a lot on here (there is a big post about it somewhere) and from my own research have heard that introducing exercise can slow down weight loss initially. All sorts of reasons including water retention and muscle repair. And something about storing what you do eat because your body thinks it needs it to fuel the runs. I’m probably not great at explaining it.
I lost 2lbs this week which is still a good loss, but my run rate had been 3-4lbs a week. So slower, but still good 👍🏻
I get a bit caught up in understanding the science of that sort of thing (main reason I asked!) and what you said definitely makes sense, I suppose we all hope to do our weight loss work and expect the weight to come flying off!! I think I've lost over a stone since I started but it definitely seems to have slowed since I started C25K (not that concerned since I actually enjoy running!) but the NHS would like me to lose a lot more for my ideal BMI! I'm not sure I'd like an ideal BMI, who wants to be average?!
I think we both deserve a continued pat on the back for getting out there and doing something when others wouldn't! 👍🏻 (had to copy/pasta that thumbs up, don't tell anyone?!)
Well done! As someone who has dusted off her trainers, and is doing various fitness classes and swimming in preparation so my body is not completely in shock, I want C25k to supplement my existing exercise and healthy eating regime and find an exercise that I can do any time without having to book in advance. I’m eating healthily and have lost nearly 2.5 stone with another 6 st to go and was interested to read that C25k might slow you losses down. Can you explain to the uninitiated as I don’t understand. I’m now starting to wonder if I’m too old (60 next birthday) and too heavy to run.
Great news on finding out where your energy deficiency lay and it’s great that you’re feeling young and vibrant again and ready to retake the challenge!!
