W7R1 - The proud hippo runs!!!

Warning: Silly woman talk. Read at your own peril.

So, I had too hectic a morning today with dropping kids in different directions for their summer holiday activities and then rushing off to work for a full-on day before frantically heading back to collect my brood in time amid crazy rush-hour traffic.

Which meant that my usual tactic of waking up early morning (before the madness begins) to go for my run - did not work.

But I WANTED to start Week 7 today....so after sorting my stuff out, I took off at 7pm. (My previous early week evening runs were always 8pm so I hardly met many people.)

Much to my horror, I bumped into a nice-looking bloke I know from my local church who was on his way home from work, and this happened during the initial toxic 5-10 mins.....so, whilst i didnt stop for a chat, I smiled and nodded and kept running. But the direct result of this encounter was for me to increase my speed....and then wonder for the next 10 mins of running whether he was staring at my wobbly bits bobbing up and down whilst doing my running-hippo impression.

Overall result = I ran faster than my normal snail pace which meant that I covered more distance than I normally would and had to extend my "normal" running route to allow for a further 10 mins of running.

And I had more left in the tank so carried on for an extra 2 mins too!!!

The poor bloke probably never gave me a second glance after my cursory nod of acknowledgment....but the pressure of running in front of someone you know obviously got to me.......and made me run faster than I normally would have.

I'm fine with running past or even behind strangers irrespective of whether they are walking, strolling, jogging or running in the same or opposite direction....no issues with that.

I guess it's time I stop feeling embarrassed that I go running every alternate day and feel comfortable to talk about it to people outside my C25k family....

I'm super pleased that I completed W7R1 without any problem.....I was just too distracted to think about much else other than how much I resemble a running hippo.

Bottom line: I ran faster today and survived 27mins nonstop......that is bl**dy amazing!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Note to Self: Be a proud hippo that runs!!!

Hey Hotheels I bet the last thought on most people’s minds is someone else’s wobbly bits when they see someone running! I’m sure he was super impressed at your speed too! Who knows what conversations you may have at church now? Well done you!! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½β€οΈ

🀣🀣🀣🀣 You make me chuckle, you do!!! I think I'm going to find it hard to look him in the eye when I see him next....wherever that might be!!!!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I think any conversation we henceforth have will be strictly restricted to the weather....lol!!!

Not for one minute do I believe you resemble a hippopotamus (ever seen a hippo in heels?) BUT even if you did, on the Runkeeper app one of the voices that announces your pace and distance etc. also throws in 'witty' sayings, one of which is "you run like a hippopotamus,..... But don't worry, they're fast!"

Extract from the script for the next RomCom blockbuster:

HotHeels lithely sprints down the road, and runs past nice-looking bloke. Stops and turns:

HotHeels: (sultry voice)

Would you like to come running with me some time?

NLB (surprised)

Wow, yes HotHeels, I'd love that. I've seen you running recently and wanted to join you. But didn't think you'd want to run with me.
