What can I say, I did it, my 1st sub 30 minute 5k.
Was it easy? Definately not, there were a lot more I need to stop gremlins than my usual runs.
Am I going to try for it again anytime soon? Probably not. I've proved to myself that I can do it, so now I'm just gonna slow down, enjoy my runs and work on distance.
I'd like to thank Berksrover for the extra bit of motivation to do this. It was on the back of his post and his 1st sub 30 5k yesterday that gave me the determination to go for it.
So for now I'm going to enjoy my moment, have a nice sit down (once I've finished running the kids around) and smile.
Thank you. Now I've got that under my belt 10k will be the next target, but not going to start working on that until I've had my holiday in early August.
Congratulations Alan for completing your first sub 30 minute 5k, I remember you graduated the day before I graduated, I called myself Alan 2 as we both have the first Christian name, I'll never run a sub 30 minute ever in a month of Sundays, the most I can hope for is something around 35/37 minutes.
Thanks Alan, yes I remember it well. I'm glad I've now done the time, but will settle for the more gentle runs again now. They're much more enjoyable, this speed lark is a bit like hard work.
Yes Alan, you might or might not know about this site, if you want to know everything about Parkruns the site is :- "Parkrun.org.UK". Vitality Parkrun, it tells you about every Parkrun there is in the UK, record times etc, I found the absolute record time of 14 minutes 5 seconds for a man who ran the Dulwich 5k Parkrun.
Great achievement, congratulations. Keep running for your own goals and be proud that having completed this and run that time, your kids will have their old man for longer than they would have if youβd stayed on the couch.
Thank you, some very true words. Being there for the children was one of the motivational reasons for begining this journey. I didn't realise how much I'd love it at the time though .π
I reckon youβll be repeating that more often than you expect Alan! Youβve built the stamina and capability, just like the other runs during the programme! Fabulous...well done! A great achievement to be very proud of! β€οΈ
Ooh i dont know about that π It took a lot of effort over the last 2k. I'm going to slow it down and work towards the 10k I think. My thinking is that the extra stamina if I reach the 10k will help with the 5k anyway. π€πββοΈ
