Couch 2 5k apps

My friend who has been doing the program told me his app only has him doing 22 minutes on w6r3 instead of the 25 Laura has me running. His app was done by Active. Wondering why there is a difference?

The difference is down to the different companies making the app. There are lots out there and all slightly different - some take longer than nine weeks to complete, some take less. IMHO the c25k is the best one (it got me running after years of failing to be able to) with the bonus that you easily find this site and all of us 😄

As I understand it, C25K was a very successful NHS initiative to get people running and was backed by a significant amount of marketing. Seeing the success, a bunch of copycats created similar apps with similar names to confuse people into downloading theirs. There are literally dozens for the iPhone (including such gems as "couch to 5k run training", "start running couch to 5k" and "couch to 5k runner"). Probably doesn't help that the official name for the app is actually "One You Couch to 5k" which makes it look almost as scammy as the ripoffs.

ok... so I'm going to stop for a second. I just did some research. The NHS app, while the most popular doesn't actually seem to be the original. Instead, they based their app off a written running program from a site called coolrunning.com (at least, that's what the evidence I can find seems to suggest)

Anyway... my point, which I'm finally getting to, is there are many many c25k apps, and they may have variations in the program, so make sure your friend is using the "one you couch to 5k" app and then you'll be aligned.

C25K was not originally an NHS initiative, it was created in 1996 by Josh Clark, an American, who was trying to encourage his mother to be more active. bigmedium.com/ideas/c25k.html

Since then there have been countless versions with variations.

Even dafter, namewise, is that few people attain 5k in 9 weeks - certainly not me. But running for 30mins - at any speed - is the most important thing. And doing it regularly.
