So was very nervous about the 20 minutes continuous but managed to complete with a bit of shock 😀. Still slightly surprised a day on but happy!!! with a little bit of soreness.
So now my query. Based on all the great feedback and fact myvcalves kept hurting through runs I have slowed down alot, is there a too slow?
When I started week 1 was completing (just) at 8.5km oh (Am on a treadmill so set it) but been getting slower. For the 20 minutes run I started at 7.5kmph but struggled around 8 minutes so put down to 7kmph and completed last 12 minutes at that.
Felt great to finish but wondered if am not pushing enough as often walk at just below 6kmph so jogging is only just over 1kmph more... is that too slow

You’ve done brilliantly JjB and nothing to worry about in relation to speed. It’s not supposed to hurt! Sounds like you’ve got this to me!! Enjoy your big achievement. Well done you! ❤️
Sometimes my running pace was slower than my fast walking pace, but the motion is different, so it’s still running.
The aim is to complete, not complete fast, so you need a pace you can keep up for the required length of time.
As I’ve started running further my average speed has come down, which felt a little disappointing, but Mo Farrah doesn’t run at the same speed as Usain Bolt and my aim is to be more Farrah than Bolt 🙂
Also, calf pain can sometimes be down to dehydration. In this heat you’ll need to try and take in even more water than usual if you can stomach it.
Great feedback thanks, yes definitely had the completing part in mind when I slowed down to 7 before mid way
The best way is to do it without pushing to hard. Take it nice and easy and when you feel like pushing,do it. You'll get lots of great advice from this site. ☺️
Slow is good. It shouldn't hurt! Run at the pace you need to. I've not tried to speed up, i am a happy snail, but I have got a little faster as I get stronger. 🐢🐌
Slow is good. Slow is your friend. Lots of us slowed down as the programme progressed. No surprise and no shame in that. You're going at your own pace. That's perfect for you so that's just perfect. Don't worry. Just concentrate on the duration. Everything else can come later when you're stronger. xx
When I was using the treadmill I also found I had to reduce the speed as I progressed through the longer runs. Slow is good if that keeps you running without stopping. 🐢🐌 rock !
