Week 8 run 1 completed

Seven weeks ago I couldn't have run to the end of my driveway and I'm still a bit amazed that today I ran for a full 28 minutes. I was tired at the end but at least my warm-down walk was brisk, not the wobbly stagger I finished with on my first few weeks. 30 minutes would have been doable but I'm sticking with C25K as it was designed and intend to do the remaining two runs this week and the final three next week. So far run days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday with cycling or walking on the other days. Who knows, I might even be fit soon?

I think once I got past the first 20 minute run in week five run 3 I knew I'd be able to do the rest. Once you successfully run for that length of time you overcome the mental block that has been telling you you can't do it. I did repeat week 5 run two (the one with the 2x8 mins) before tackling run three. My reasoning was that 20 minutes was too big a leap without just one more preparation run.

Well done. That’s the last big leap in duration. The next is a trifling 2 minutes. Only 60 seconds each half. And you ran 60 seconds in W1 😜

I didn't post before now because I was worried I wouldn't make it past week three or four and didn't want to look stupid, but now that I've got this far I'm pretty sure I'll be able to complete it. Not only that, I'm even planning on continuing to enjoy running to keep fit. If I can run 5k then anyone can, and I hope that someone may find inspiration in that.

Thanks Jay. I'm really feeling a sense of achievement , even at this stage. I'll be over the moon at the end of week nine.

I bet. I’ve been right there just a few weeks ago. Planning my step up to 10k next but working on shifting some more weight first.

Keep enjoying it - it’s probably the best thing you can do for your all round health.

Brilliant! Well done! It must feel good to know you could have carried on too! Not long to graduation now! 😁❤️

Slow and steady does it. Sarah Millican was trying to prod me into going faster but I didn't fall for it. I can work on the speed and distance once I'm able to keep going for the full 30 mins.
