So I got out there early this morning (7am) to try to beat the heat and I think that was the first run I've actually not enjoyed! It was already hot and I chose a different route down into my village and out the other side but I just didn't enjoy it. The second ten minute run was definitely mind over matter - going through some of the tips on here helped ie asking myself "Are my legs okay? Yes. Are my arms working? Yes. Am I dying? No (not really!). Well then, keep going!" and whilst I thought I was going to finish it I just plodded through.
Amazed then to find out on Strava that I'd smashed my PBs for nearly every distance! Think not having too many hills helped, even if it was more boring
So bye bye intervals...
We are playing a psychological game with ourselves here. The good thing is that when we win, we not only get healthier and stronger, but also happier - at least that is my experience. Enjoy being a runner, you deserve it.
There are other benefits too that I hadn't thought about - I'm a singer (for fun) and last night I realised that my lung capacity must've increased as I was holding phrases for far longer than normal! Strange things I wouldn't have thought about before
Just wait till your watch starts slipping off your wrist. That is one weird side effect!
What sort of singing?
Well last night was Gilbert & Sullivan but I sing modern stuff too 😲
I’m a singer too and noticed a big improvement in my ability to control my voice pretty much from the first run. More consistent too.
