Week 6 run 2 - horrible!

So I got out there early this morning (7am) to try to beat the heat and I think that was the first run I've actually not enjoyed! It was already hot and I chose a different route down into my village and out the other side but I just didn't enjoy it. The second ten minute run was definitely mind over matter - going through some of the tips on here helped ie asking myself "Are my legs okay? Yes. Are my arms working? Yes. Am I dying? No (not really!). Well then, keep going!" and whilst I thought I was going to finish it I just plodded through.

Amazed then to find out on Strava that I'd smashed my PBs for nearly every distance! Think not having too many hills helped, even if it was more boring :D

So bye bye intervals...

We are playing a psychological game with ourselves here. The good thing is that when we win, we not only get healthier and stronger, but also happier - at least that is my experience. Enjoy being a runner, you deserve it.

There are other benefits too that I hadn't thought about - I'm a singer (for fun) and last night I realised that my lung capacity must've increased as I was holding phrases for far longer than normal! Strange things I wouldn't have thought about before :)

Just wait till your watch starts slipping off your wrist. That is one weird side effect!

What sort of singing?

Well last night was Gilbert & Sullivan but I sing modern stuff too 😲

I’m a singer too and noticed a big improvement in my ability to control my voice pretty much from the first run. More consistent too.

This sounds like a good run...not a 'horrible' run. Look at all those PBs you got in smashed! Awesome work! 👊

Thanks - I think the hills have helped so far as I was probably going my normal rate but it was a bit flatter! 😀

PB runs feel awful because we don’t realise how much faster we are going. This catches me out all the time.

Well done for fighting through - you just have the long run to come and it’s much easier than the intervals in my opinion. Enjoy it, another massive landmark.

Cheers Jay! It means my normal routes are going to be harder to hit PBs on I think 😅

No. You will perhaps have to go slightly slower initially but by the end of W7 you will have done the same duration 4 times so you should get some PBs coming in. If not, the duration itself is a PB 😉

😀 love the thought that “the duration itself is a PB”, so motivating and absolutely true every run is a personal best at this stage.

I did this run yesterday and definitely didn’t enjoy it either. I did it on a treadmill to try and avoid a bit of the heat, only there was definitely a problem with my legs during the second ten minutes!

Bye bye intervals 👋🏻

Perhaps our legs trying to go on strike 😁

Congratulations southlundon! You did it!! 😁 Good for you for using the check points! Another run in the bag and you've learned that route is not your favourite. So you can put that one in the boring bag and eliminate going forward! Job done! Now...that's all good! Enjoy last run of W6! 😉❤️

Do you have to pay the subscription on Strava to get your PB’s I’ve only used it twice and not really looked into it.

No free version gives you those stats too. 😊

Ripcurlrana71 is right, I just use the free version 🙂
