Week 6 run 2

Another early start, was out the door by about 6 am. A lot cooler today and some rain in the air, Ive never minded rain running and finding it oddly calming.

Few stretches and five minutes warm up walk and I was ready to run, 2x10 minute runs today with a 3 minute walk in the middle.

Born To Run audiobook my choice of running companion today, I'm about half way through and really enjoying it so far.

I'm still not timing or measuring anything so my watch was just for show again, just the occasional check on my HR to justify its presence.

First 10 minutes flew by as I plodded along and the 1 minute to go warning took me a little by surprise. "That was easy" I thought to myself.

The 3 minute walk passed by just as quickly and before I was fully prepared it was running time again!

I remained slow and steady just concentrating on trying to keep my head up and my form reasonable.

I noticed I was mouth breathing almost exclusively and tried to take in a few long breaths in through my nose and out through my mouth, it helped a little bit I still sounded awful๐Ÿ˜‚ only bumped into one person though a dog walker I've seen a few times now and we exchanged cheery good mornings! I always try to put on a brave face when I see people ๐Ÿ˜‚ straighten up, speed up a bit and put a smile on my face! Sometimes it gives the little boost you need to maintain to the end.

Last minute or so I could see the finish line and sped up a little and finished with a little fist pump and a big smile! Can't wait to get out there again for the next one ๐Ÿ˜

I hope everybody running today has a good one!

Happy running.

It is nice now yes! Unusual for Middlesbrough ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚ no plans so may see if any of the family fancy a walk out, maybe a pop to B&M to buy something pointless for the garden ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Have a great day too

Awesome work. I started my first week 8 run today and it started raining, while I was thinking oh this will be fun and concentrating on breathing I never even noticed the weather turn and the sun shine! Iโ€™m keen to understand distance at some point in the programme but have no idea how to track that. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and breathe- Iโ€™m finding that helps!

Thank you! One foot in front of the other and breath is pretty much my go to advice! ๐Ÿ˜‚ My breathing is terrible at the minute but it's getting me through so I'm just gonna try to not worry about it and let it do what it does naturally.

Distance tracking you will want a nice shiny fitness tracker/watch I'd recommend a Garmin. Prices ranges from reasonably expensive to eye wateringly expensive, there is currently a Garmin sale on in most places as new model due in September. I've tried a few brands and find Garmin the best for battery life and accuracy when it comes to distance and pace. There's are lots of brands out there and several threads discussing the pros and cons of them.

I started with a cheap brand then a medium brand and then bought the premium Garmin I actually wanted in the first place so buying cheap didn't help as I ended up buying 3 and spending more money in long run so I'd say get the one you really want first time, there expensive but an investment that can last several years.

Off to climb a small mountain! Happy Running!

Very well done you! I feel many of us have sneaked the odd fist pump in, somewhere, on our running!

Also, that head up, straightening and running tall, when we run past folk...why not? We are out there and doing it! The smile... it should be there always.. :)

Glad that you are enjoying the book ! It is a good one isn't it!

Terrific work! I'm not a nose-breather, at all. But I often check in with my breathing just like you did...

Best for Week 6 Run 3 and keep us posted.
