Well this international running is becoming somewhat of a habit isn’t it; first Boston, then New York and now Krakow, Poland.
Benn over here for a few days of work but wasn’t going to let that get in the way of the program. Despite waking up and really not feeling it due to a a couple of very long previous days I told myself that it doesn’t matter if I fail it as I can just repeat when I’ve prepared better. Turns out I was worried for nothing. This program really is magic. Yes it was a bit of a slog to begin with and my breathing was heavier than I would have liked and my pace was probably quicker than it should have been (hey, those two things are linked! Doh!) I still managed it and really enjoyed it yet again. As with previous run my second long Run seemed easier than the first for whatever reason but I’m not going to question that. I even managed another cheeky 60 second run in the middle of my cool down as A) I was feeling cocky and B) I was still a good distance away from my hotel so figured I would try and push the run to end as close to there as possible.
Already looking forward to Run 3 / Parkrun on Saturday.

Great job. This run, being two 10s, can really highlight the phenomenon known as the toxic 10... this is where the brain hasn’t realised what we are doing, and so it hasn’t cranked up the respiratory system enough, then we get a slight oxygen deficit and it springs everything into action... in a straight 20 minute run, if you’re at conversational pace you can actually feel when you have got through this process, you naturally speed up, just a little bit, without putting any extra effort in. On the two 10s intervals you don’t get to feel this... but the second interval often feels better.
Anyways... no worries, you did it and now it’s all about just running... enjoy run 3.
Well done, I have just got back from the same run - less exciting location though, here in Kent. I found the first 10 min run harder too, interesting to hear that there's a scientific reason for that. I always find the first 5 minutes or so the hardest.
I was intending on doing Parkrun this sat, it lands on my week 6 run 2. So today I did run 1 around the course...It's hilly, very hilly 😓🗻🏃♂️🗻 I was really struggling. Don't know if I want to be in that kind of pain with people around me. Might wait for week 8 run 3... 😬
Having done my first one last weekend I would absolutely recommend it; hikky it not it is such a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and nobody is in any way judging how fast or slow you go. Go for it
