Week 1 - commencing tomorrow

I’ve just discovered Couch to 5k about an hour ago!! I’ve got the podcast ready to go for the morning and I’ve persuaded my sister to do it with me. Any tips before we start? How exciting ❣️❣️

I’ve hardly ever done exercise... or I’ve started it and packed it in after a week or two...!

You’ll love it!! I started mid March with my daughter. She is training to go into the army and I was just about to retire ( which I’ve done now). When we started I could not run for one minute without thinking I was dying. 9 weeks later I graduated from Couch25k and could run for 30 mins without stopping. Decided to consolidate with 3 x 30 min runs a week for 3 weeks before trying to go on to 10k

The first run out I felt so good I kept going for 40 mins to complete my first 5k. Since then I’ve gone on to do several 5ks, 7.25k and then a 10k.

I’m still doing Bridge to 10k so I get more used to the longer distances but I am proud to say I am a runner now an all thanks to C25k!!

Read lots of posts on here, take advice from the Administrators , and above all go slowly!!!! Run slow, then slower still and you can do it.

Good luck 😉

Slow and keep going until it’s time to stop. That’s all you need.

Me and my sis also completed this wonderful journey together and we have recently graduated. Both over 50 and non runners but we're not now. Loved it and it's great to have someone by your side through the highs and the lows. Good luck .

You’ll love it. The best advice is to take it steady. It’s not a race, just enjoy it. You’ll be a runner in no time. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Well done Samsay1 you sill love it. Best advice i was given was keep it slow n comfortable, if your doing it with your sis that will be a great advantage. Also remember to drink lots of water day before, in fact all the time really. Remember you will have a bad day every now and again, just forget it and move on. Dont know when you are going to run but i do early mornings and just gave a strong coffee and banana half hour before. Trust the programme it works n go for it 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Hope your first run goes well! It’s mighty addictive I’ve found. I did W3R1 this morning and could easily have run further - that was with me finding W1 quite intense! It’s amazing how quickly stamina builds, plus my legs no longer hurt.

Good luck and enjoy the journey with us all! 🏃‍♀️😀

1. Warm up before

2. Slow and steady during - I mean S-L-O-W ;)

3. Stretch after

4. Do not skip rest days

Enjoy the process ;)

What helped me loads with motivation is posting in here, where you can find a bunch of lovely supportive people who struggle or has struggled the same as you do.

Happy running!

Congratulations on taking the first step to decide to do this! This will get quite addictive and you'll find yourself looking forward to running. The forum has loads of great advice and support.

I'm about to start week 4 (the weeks fly by believe me!) And the best advice I have received is to take it slow. Speed and distance can come in later. The main thing you're doing right now is building your stamina up. You'll find you do get faster at the end of each week. I always go that little bit further by run 3 compared to run 1.

It's great to take someone running with you, the support is really helpful.

Let us know how you do!
