My first run on the beach for months and it’s so good to be back there. Warm sun, cool breeze and the lowest of low tides - so miles of perfect running surface. So this is how it went...
“ This is perfect! Wheee!” Chats to daughter during warmup five minute walk.
Start running- slow, slow, slow, gently plod - Oldfloss would be proud of me - daughter disappears over the horizon on her own run in a speedy twinkling of long slim legs - “well I know she’s fast and I’m slow, but REALLY, did she have to rub my nose in it that much?! 😂
Next 5 mins, “Oh no! This is really hard, don’t think I’m enjoying this at all - aaargh! that’s not what I want to be thinking- distract, distract! - Look at that seagull, look at the waves, listen to the music, (no maybe not sorry Laura I love you to bits but I don’t like your music), humph I’ll just have to put up with this... plod, plod...
10 mins in - this is not enjoyable at all, want to stop, maybe I will- no- one will know. “ No! No! Absolutely no stopping allowed!” ... ok Laura, I’ll listen to your music. Harrumph, wish I put on my own playlist!
... a missing 5 mins when distraction successfully resulted in anaesthetised brain and auto legs...
... wakes up... hey I’m running! I’m breathing- in fact amazing - I’m breathing comfortably, ( checks legs quickly to see if they really are still running! ) YES! I am running and breathing and wow! enjoying it! 😀
Sun in eyes now - makes running so much more relaxing, (strange but true) sea spray drifting, seabirds calling - this is good - Laura your music is suddenly not so bad - and 25 mins are over. Whoop! ... and here comes daughter who has run twice the distance! 😄
