Life’s a beach?!

My first run on the beach for months and it’s so good to be back there. Warm sun, cool breeze and the lowest of low tides - so miles of perfect running surface. So this is how it went...

“ This is perfect! Wheee!” Chats to daughter during warmup five minute walk.

Start running- slow, slow, slow, gently plod - Oldfloss would be proud of me - daughter disappears over the horizon on her own run in a speedy twinkling of long slim legs - “well I know she’s fast and I’m slow, but REALLY, did she have to rub my nose in it that much?! 😂

Next 5 mins, “Oh no! This is really hard, don’t think I’m enjoying this at all - aaargh! that’s not what I want to be thinking- distract, distract! - Look at that seagull, look at the waves, listen to the music, (no maybe not sorry Laura I love you to bits but I don’t like your music), humph I’ll just have to put up with this... plod, plod...

10 mins in - this is not enjoyable at all, want to stop, maybe I will- no- one will know. “ No! No! Absolutely no stopping allowed!” ... ok Laura, I’ll listen to your music. Harrumph, wish I put on my own playlist!

... a missing 5 mins when distraction successfully resulted in anaesthetised brain and auto legs...

... wakes up... hey I’m running! I’m breathing- in fact amazing - I’m breathing comfortably, ( checks legs quickly to see if they really are still running! ) YES! I am running and breathing and wow! enjoying it! 😀

Sun in eyes now - makes running so much more relaxing, (strange but true) sea spray drifting, seabirds calling - this is good - Laura your music is suddenly not so bad - and 25 mins are over. Whoop! ... and here comes daughter who has run twice the distance! 😄

I’ve only ever tried to run on a beach once- the sand makes it soooooo much harder!! Well done!

I think it has to be the right beach and time of tide. 😄

Thank you, I do love beaches. 😀Clawing my way back - at least W7 this time has been better than first time round- it was my “ horror week” last November! 😂

I know how you feel! I came home from my second ever 5 k run, chuffed to bits that I’d done it in 38 minutes albeit bright red and literally dripping. 10 minutes later and 15 year old son strolls through the door, fresh as a daisy having completed 5.1 k in 28 minutes. Life isn’t fair! Your beach looks gorgeous though 😎

Thanks. 😄

Yes a sense of humour is essential. Daughter is a whippet, hubby a gazelle while I just potter along snailwise! Still, it’s better than the couch. 😀

Thank you. 😄 - I don’t post so often because this is second go of C25K following illness, but I had to celebrate that beach and change from groan to yay! 😃

Thank you- I am lucky to live near a beach with a good firm surface at low tide- I discovered on holiday that this is not always the case! 😃

Maybe I should collect beach runs and give them a runner friendly rating! 😂

Some more running tourism...sounds like a plan! Don't want to end up running in sinking sand! 😱

That is just stunning!! Where are you and can we come and run with you please? As long as we can run with you and not the rest of your family who sound superb, yet a bit too quick for my liking :-)

NE coast - actually it looks better in the photo than in real life because it is in sight of all the Teesside industry, but I’m not complaining, I still love it. Northumberland has some of my favourite beautiful beaches - I have weekend/ holiday/ plans to run there! 😀

Yes running with me would make you feel at least half a gazelle- very good for morale! 😂
