The running time was fine, I did 5 mins without any cardio problems, and I'm pretty much in control of my breathing on every 4th pace, which is a huge improvement, but my right knee is too painful to continue. Have started with RICE, but I think it's bursitis (below and slightly in from knee cap). I'm already on anti-inflammatory meds so little else I can do except wait. Docs appointment made on return from run but is 2/1.2 weeks away. Really sad. It was going so well, and I'd already achieved the impossible ie looking forward to going out running!! and getting up to 5mins comfortably. It's like snakes and ladders and I've just slid down a snake back to the start.
Can anyone tell me if good running shoes and gait analysis help with avoiding bursitis?
Thanks

You are doing all the right things. My personal recommendation is that if you are going to continue beyond W4 then proper running shoes are essential and I always recommend a gait analysis.
Whether new shoes will prevent bursitis, I do not know, but considering that most injuries sustained by new runners can be directly attributable to the impact of running, I would suggest that good quality, well cushioned shoes will not exacerbate the problem and may reduce other issues.
When you do start back, try slowing down, making sure you are not overstriding, so that footfall is directly under your body not out in front.
Morning. I echo comment below. I was starting to get pain in my left knee about 1/2 hour post run and awfully stiff feet getting out of bed the following morning. I have just had bio metric analysis of my gait. I have pronation bilaterally. This basically means there is more stress coming up from each step. Affecting knees and hips.
I ran in them last night and * touch wood* I don't have those symptoms this morning.
I also invested in a pair of insoles to carry on correcting the gait when not running.
It's not a cheap alternative but I have considered it an investment in my health and wellbeing.
I can only speak for myself but I had gait analysis and the runners I bought were money well spent. If you intend keeping up with running it's worth it. Hope you are well soon!
