I've been making steady progress, but have been floored by hip pain. It mostly came on after first run of 25mins in week 6. I took two days between runs but it has got steadily worse, especially after a bit of downhill and uneven ground running. Has anyone else had a problem? How long should I rest? I had a foot injury a couple of years ago and wonder if I've been running very slightly 'awkwardly' to accommodate it. I don't want to stop the progress I've made but worried about going back to it too early -- or not ever being able to graduate.

WK7 Run2 Anyone else get hip pain, how long to rest?
Yes I was hit by hip pain spesh during the longer runs, the worst of it coincided with an Achilles' tendon injury - which was when I went for gait analysis and bought some decent running shoes 😊 Helped hugely, but still had some pain after runs - stretching immediately after (IB band ) and foam rolling ~ although agonising, seemed to do the trick. I rested it out for a few days and went with my intuition ~ TailChaser may be able to advise too 😊 It will ease up and you will get to graduate, but be patient ~ I know it's frustrating 😊 All the best 🙌
Hiya Squelch , yes I get hip pain like you and it started with the longer runs (from Week 5 Run 3 for me) and like you, uneven ground and gradients made it worse.
I went to the Osteopath and he diagnosed it as hip bursitis, this has also aggravated my lower back problems as it made me run awkwardly. I stopped running for about a week and that helped the bursitis a lot but it does flare up, so it’s probably better to rest it for longer if you can bear to. To keep myself from going potty I found non-impact exercises like the exercise bike and, especially, the cross trainer really helped. I started running on the treadmill again using a neutral gradient. When I have exercised I put a cold pack on my hip for 20 minutes then rub in some ibuprofen gel, that really helps.
There are quite a few posts on here about bursitis. Another possibility it could be is piriformis aka Runners Bum, which is what I thought I originally had.
Hope this helps, but you’re probably best to get a specialist to check it out. You’ll be able to graduate I promise but I can definitely feel your frustration! Good luck and best wishes 🤞🤞🤗
Thanks TailChaser. Was your osteopath able to treat it? Or was it simply rest... I've seen osteopaths about my foot but it got ridiculously expensive and I opted for physiotherapy -- but it's never completely recovered from being run over two years ago.
Oh no, that’s awful Squelch 😨 I hope the C25K is helping to make you stronger even if there are a few hiccups along the way (I think most of us have them by the sounds of it).
My osteopath used ultrasound and acupuncture on it, and that together with the rest really did help. It was a bit sore after the treatment but I think it healed quicker. I think the trick is to get on top of it before it gets too bad. I made a follow up appointment but he said if it felt ok then to cancel it, which is what any good therapist should say as it can get very expensive (I’ve been there too).
Probably worth seeing the Doc first to confirm what it is then move on from there, then at least it won’t cost anything to begin with.
