How long will it take an over-weight (10kg) 62 yo male to get up to speed so that I don't sound like a wheezing steam train after running for just a minute? On week 3 but the 3 min runs are hard work! probably my fifth attempt at c25k in 3 years. Seriously, I am interested in the experience of others in my age range - I am reasonably active physically (walking dog (1 hr a day), gardening, hiking), but fit? Nope! Thanks

Not sure why you have not completed it before, but it is an excellent decision to return to the programme and forum and you must believe in the programme and yourself.

Overweight 61 year old female just completed wk2 run 1. Chuffed that I managed the 90 second runs. With Laura trying to get me to breath properly (didn’t happen) and achy legs I intend to soldier on
Try cutting your speed down. I run on a treadmill because it is 30-40 degrees outside at the moment, this makes it easy to monitor your speed and moderate. I walk at 6.2 and run at 8.2 that way I will not get 5k in 30mins as targeted but will worry about that once I run for 30mins. Don't give up!
It is not a matter of getting up to speed, more a case of getting down to speed. You need to run at an easy conversational pace, as outlined in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
I was 57 when I started C25K and now, five years later, I can honestly say that it is one of the best things that I have ever done for myself.
Slow down and stick with it. C25K builds stamina, speed comes later.
Thanks to you all for your comments. Reason for length of time spent on c25k is that I did my back in quite badly whilst gardening, & that prevented any jogging for 18+ months. However, for past few months have been using an exercise bike & getting my HR up to cardio zone (> 120 bpm) for 20 - 30 minutes. Sure, I'm pretty sweaty & knackered at the end of the session, but my breathing is nothing compared to when I am jogging. I guess it's trying to move all those extra kilos when I jog. Thoughts much appreciated
I’m 52 overweight and have fibromyalgia- I have always done yoga and walking but I am finding C25K tough! I am very very slow and get breathless but I’m on W6 with R3 next eek! Don’t worry about distance or speed - I’m no where near 5K just keep plodding on!😀
