First run...

Just back from W1R1. Jeepers, that was hard! I haven’t run since doing cross country at school some 26 years ago.

I had a stitch just before the halfway mark and had to take two of the runs at the brisk walking pace. I managed to get the last three runs in but I was begging for Sarah to tell me it was all over on the last one!

I’m buoyed to read that others found the first outing difficult and that the second is somehow easier (or more tolerable!). First step done - onwards and upwards!

Well done - going out for that run is the hardest part of the programme.

You may be going too fast if you got stitch, especially if you used to run - this is slow jog speed.

Enjoy the next one!

Thanks for the encouragement and words of wisdom. I think I realised that I was going too fast and slowed the running portions down. Something to bear in mind for Saturday!

I did my first run today too! The wind was exhilarating! I hope you had fun with it, despite how hard it was. Good luck for your next run!

Congratulations to you on getting out there! I did have fun and, aside from feeling a bit achey, I feel very positive.

Hope all goes well for you on your next outing!

Well done! The first run is by far the worst. Let us know how you get on 👍🏼

Well done you! And welcome to the most helpful & supportive forum there is.

Sounds like you may have gone a bit quick. You will soon find out that the most used phrase here is ‘slow & steady’. Start slow ... very slow, then slow down a bit more and that will get you through. Embrace your inner snail and enjoy the journey 🐌👍

Slow down.... at this very early stage... you need to think slow and steady.. and keep that mantra in your head... check out the FAQ post too;

make sure you are happy to move on and do so gently:)

Welcome to the forum and well done for getting the first run done. That’s one of the hardest as you’ve had to make the effort and resolve to get your kit together, download the app, find the time, and then actually do it.

But you’ve done it, and if you take it slow and steady you will be surprised at what you can achieve.

Come back in and post often as you’ll get lots of encouragement, advice and guidance to help you on your way, and be able to share the experience with others.

Good luck. 😀

Certainly gets better. I found W1 runs really tough, and now I can’t believe it, I can actually run the full 30mins of W9 and you will too. You can and you will do it, exactly onwards and upwards. Good on you for getting off the couch 🛋.
