W7R3 woes - should I stop running on concrete??

Hi everyone,

I have just had some really helpful advice from some lovely people on here about my legs having seized up after two of the runs this week. Just wondering if, at 53, and previously unused to much exercise, the impact of 25 minutes running on hard paths around my local park is actually too much impact for my body? I had been following the programme with no problems until this week. I have good running shoes and I am trying to take it gently but perhaps I really do need the walking breaks in between. Pity, because I am actually getting through the time OK. Just very nervous that I might be damaging something and I won't run again until I am sure it is muscular rather than an injury.

Hoping that I am not one of those people who just shouldn't be running - sorry, that sounds negative!!

You should be ok as this programme is for everyone, I’d say 🙂

Why not find a trail to run on Good plan. I like a soft forest floor meself 🙂 There are plenty of trails about.

Thank you for that reassurance! I would like to try a forest floor - that sounds more forgiving! I will see if I can find one to run on...

I drove to my local country park and did my C25k runs there. The drop of leaves and pine needles for years builds up a lovely running surface Ours are well trodden, which helps

Have fun! It’s lovely out 👍😃

You have inspired me to go and find a country park to run in. Time to go a bit further afield methinks :) When I can move my legs again!

Good. Have fun. You can have a drink of water in the car for when you get back. 🙂

Try varying the running surfaces to include grass/trails instead of hard pathways all the time, and make sure your shoes are well cushioned running shoes..

Thank you very much for your advice - it only just occurred to me that the surface might be a problem. I will try to vary it a bit and see if a softer surface helps:) I have just been reading about Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness too and hope (?) this is what it is.

Hydration and good stretching afterwards can also play a part as well..

Yes that's true. Feeling more encouraged now and also having a rest day today (possibly won't run again until Saturday).
