So I did W9R1 Thursday and thought that I was up for a 5k fun run ... I should have remembered that I am extremely slow and cannot do 5k in anywhere near 30 mins.
So started off yesterday and unfortunately was with two runner friends, big mistake I tried to keep up, never found my pace once throughout the ordeal, had to keep walking on and off and thought I was going to die!
Please please tell me that others have been this bad but can actually run a good 5k now,......so disheartened 😢😢

Yes, loads of people have ended up able to run the 5k but, crucially, at their own pace.
Well done for trying it. You just need to set off with your friends with clear agreement you will all run at your own paces and regroup at the finish line.
Don’t beat yourself up. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment and try harder than you can manage. But now you know how to make next time work for you.
Running at someone else’s pace is a killer. Always run at your own pace. I wouldn’t worry about distance at the moment. Just go out and run your 30 mins and enjoy it! You’ll probably find your distance will gradually build. Or you could gradually build up the time you run for to cover the 5k.
Either way the fact you’re at week 9 means you’re doing fantastically well. I’m not sure that’s a word but you know what I mean.
Please don’t be disheartened. If it’s any consolation my husband once went out training with me and his walking pace was my running pace. I could have slapped him!
Why did you decide to do couch to 5k? Was it to improve your fitness level and to set yourself some new goals? If it was it’s sounds to me like you’re in it like car bonnet! X
As Jay says, don’t get disheartened. I’m not running anywhere close to 5k in my 30 minutes yet. I have a charity 5k in a few weeks and I know it’ll be so easy to get caught up in the excitement of a mass start, running with more experienced people etc. You completed it, put it behind you and just focus on a nice steady W9R2 and remember that the podium is only 2 runs away. We’ll all be waiting to meet you there xx
