I'm in Switzerland, currently just finished week 4 of C25K. There's a race in our village in 3 weeks time, and people are beginning to talk about it. Despite my best efforts at staying 'under the radar' with my running, I was spotted this morning and now people are asking me whether I'll be doing the village run at the end of June. It's 7.7km, with a climb of 280 metres. It sounds absolutely frightening, and I wouldn’t want to do it if it would take me more than an hour. Less than an hour I would be happy with.
I'll be at the end of week 7 when the race happens. Should I even attempt it? I'm going to walk the course tomorrow to have a look.
Well done to you telford_mike, I love everything Swiss, I get a newsletter called "The Local" from Switzerland and like listening to Swiss Radio (SRF Musickwelle and Option Musique) as well. You don't need to stay under the radar, nothing shameful about running. Yes, I do think you should run that 7.7k event, just like everything else just take it nice, slow and steady, I am sure you won't be last, good luck.
Hiya Mike. I'd say give it a go. Walk the first 5 mins, walk the uphills, take it nice and slow and relaxed. Try not to get overwhelmed by the occasion by going off too fast. Keep enough in the tank for the end. Do some run/walk splits if you need to. No shame in that.
Your legs should be fine for it. It's about getting your head around the occasion and getting the pacing right.
I walked the course this morning - it took 2 hours with a few stops for drinks and photos. The distance is no problem to be honest, but the climbs are pretty severe. Hmmmm.
