I got up this morning really wanting to do this but also trying to put it off and to talk myself out of it - 90 seconds is such a long time when you are not used to running. In the end it wasn’t so bad - i just find that I don’t breath properly and my shins ache. I struggled to get to the end a couple of times so I had to stop for a few seconds. I think I was concentrating too much on the breathing and it distracted me 😂. I just can’t imagine I will be running for any length of time. Husband suggested I try singing whilst running to help with my breathing. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

When I first started I made sure I ran really slowly. I mean I was almost rolling from one foot to another. I think then you can gradually build it up and you’ll risk fewer aches and pains. I’m not sure about the singing though 😀😀.
Bless you! If I sang when I ran then people would cry! Tone deaf doesn't even begin to describe it.... sounds like you may be running too fast. I'm no expert and there are people on here far more experienced than me but from what I've read on other posts - you should be able to hold a conversation Have you downloaded the C25K app or one of the podcasts? These will help you keep time. If you have downloaded the app you can listen to your own music - I personally have to have my music - it motivates me & takes my mind off the fact that I am running! Sorry - I should have said first off - welcome to the forum & well done for getting started! I'm sure you will get lots of advice. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
Thanks for the welcome and the lovely replies - I do have Sarah Millican spurring me on and I just couldn’t do it at all without my music. Maybe I will try a bit of singing next time and let you know how it goes 😂. Reading all the posts makes me think maybe I can do this 😊
I'm lucky cos I run with my sister so if we can talk we can breathe! But sing! Or mime ???
Singing??!?!! I'm just grateful to be able to breathe in & out. Mind you I was lip-syncing to Simple Minds at the Big Weekend Saturday night......that takes your mind off things.
Plus, as others have said my "running" speed is more of a fast shuffle and bearly much above the walking pace.....things just bounce about a bit more.
I did try listening to the BBC2 Confessions podcast yesterday morning but gave that up as I kept laughing too much. Music is definitely the way to go..
I did w2r2 last night. I have found listening to pirate shanties helps me as I can sing along which actually helped me keep going without feeling breathless. Also helped me keep a steady rhythm. Find songs you like and can sing along to see if it helps.
