W2 R1 is done - arghrghgh

Ok that one was a bit of a struggle, that extra 30 seconds really makes a difference, at least to the running parts. Somehow the longer walks seem shorter than last week’s.

So here’s why I think I struggled:

1. New running shoes - exactly what I needed! But they made me over confident so...

2. ...I completely failed to pace myself! You do get cocky when there’s a literal spring in your step.

3. It’s a step up from what I’m used to. Can’t really feel bad about that. But again the overconfidence didn’t help. On Wednesday I will aim for the exact right amount of confidence now I know what I’m in for (“in for” just autocorrected to “unfit”, which... yeah.)

4. My preparation didn’t quite go as planned. Two hours before I run I like to have a banana, a snickers and a handful or two of nuts and raisins. The bananas I bought today had red fungus running through them and the bag of nuts had a bit of grit in it that possibly cracked my tooth! Snickers was nice though.

Despite all that I had a good run. First three went great, apart from when a car pulled out and blocked the pavement and I had no choice but to wait for it to move.

After the fourth run I was really out of breath and the right side of my chest was a little tight and painful so I couldn’t take a satisfying deep breath straight away (you know, the kind that really feels like it’s filling every corner). I paused and extended the recovery walk after that one until I was breathing more comfortably but then the last two, much slower runs went a lot better.

So I’m hot, I’m tired, I’m sweaty and disgusting but I feel really good right now and might literally be glowing. I’m looking forward to the next attempt.

Sorry for the really long post, turns out I like talking about it almost as much as I like doing it.

Yep loving every second! Except the ones where I can’t breathe but that’s just nitpicking

Good run... you’ll eat the next one.

As for no choice but to stop for the car... I beg to differ youtu.be/vixFxgDODs0

Hey I’m a beginner, I don’t know these advanced techniques yet.

To be fair it was his right of way, it was just an annoying badly timed inconvenience. I was trying to cross a busy road so thought I’d run along it until there was a gap, but then he came out and blocked me.

It really annoys me though when my run gets interrupted. Get out of the way!

This is why I don’t run roads... but then I attract dogs in the park... there’s no win!

I love the fact your post is long. It's great to hear other people's experiences esp as I'm just starting out.

I will prob end up writing endless drivel in my posts because quite frankly, the cat couldn't give a monkey's if I've been for a run and you have to let it all out somewhere 🤣

Thanks but for now I’ll croak it weakly from the gutter and work my way up!

It's great that you know what caused your struggles, as that means you know how to fix them. You're doing really well, and are now prepared for the next run.

Keep up the long posts and let us know how it goes; it's great to hear about your progress.

Sounds like a challenge

Well done...at this stage.... a healthy eating regime and hydration should be enough..without snickers!!!

So... just run and take it really slowly and steadily... if you are struggling for breath at this stage... slow down... and then slow down even more:)

Well... I’ve been bad and not run for a few weeks, usual reasons but I need to jump back in. I’m thinking of repeating a slightly easier run a few times to get back into it because they’re really hitting me hard this time!
