Hi All, I’m still in Portugal with two post graduation runs under my belt. Somehow feels tougher when you’re away from home but I really feel that the habit of run/ jogging is there!
Even though my last run was tough and on fairly busy roads I clocked up 4.75k, so I’m feeling very pleased.
I’ve found the heat this week quite a challenge. It’s been my first post-graduation week and I thought it’d be plain sailing but I’ve actually found it slightly harder. I did manage my first 5k and did it in a respectable time, but I just haven’t had the same buzz this week. I find it so draining running in the heat but my husband actually prefers it (weird!). Hopefully today’s downpour will cool things down for tomorrow’s run! 🤞
Week 6 run 1 in the bag! The last five minute run was really tough though. Pleased to have completed it, as this was the point that I completely gave up last time I tried c25k. Feels actually possible, and it feels really strange to call myself a runner!
Week 6 run 2 completed yesterday, my lesson learnt is to not play Born Slippy by Underworld in the first few minutes. This resulted in me running at full pelt in excitement (lager lager lager!) so by the time it came to the second 10 minute run, I was flagging a bit... oooops!
Haha yes, I'm so enjoying Underworld. Missed them first time round. Too busy, but this track appeared today in my 23rd minute and i nearly ran on past 25!
Ha will see how I feel in the morning! I’d rather go out at 5ish when no one else is out and about and the air is really cool, but I’ll definitely want more sleep!
I am still running for 30 mins occasionally 42 to get to 5k. Today’s one was like I was running through treacle with concrete boots on! Hoping it’s was just one of those runs 😬
Well done for keeping going after graduation. I’ve only got 5 runs left and am worried that without a program to follow I won’t have the motivation to keep on going.
Well done only 5 runs to go! Do you have any idea what you would like to do? I don’t think I’m up for running 10k any time soon but never say never! I have tried a few different things ... I’ve done a virtual 5k and got a medal through the post, I’ve tried to make my legs move faster and improve my 5k time (today that did NOT happen 😂) and I’ve tried listening to a podcast instead of music ... not as motivating as guns n roses, queen or my new favourite songs from the Greatest Showman 😊 going to try different routes ... hopefully find a really flat one 😬!
Wow HM that’s amazing! I remember one of the mums at school doing one and saying never again ... saw her a few weeks ago doing another one and really enjoying it! 😃
Finished W8 today- all came together nicely so looking forward to W9. Also starting to think about post graduation targets as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the structure of these sessions.
Ive been taking tentative steps off the IC... Much stronger & fitter now than when I started out & kept to 3x week training so restarted at W3R3. Did W5R1 today. Fingers crossed I continue in the right direction.
So happy to be running again. I love this programme, it really has changed my life 😄
Was intending to start week 3 of bridge to 10km but the weather terrible over here. A little better yesterday, so set off and did my first 6km! It feels amazing. Now on to week 3, weather permitting. The Oracle says slow and steady, so slow and steady it will be. 🧣☔️
Thanks Oldfloss, getting into the swing of things now. I am going to do W3R3 tomorrow at the Park Run (power-walking the rest) and I hope to ensure my second 3min interval doesn't coincide with the only true uphill bit - like it did on my R1 on Sunday! I'm obese, almost-50, with rice-krispie knees and osteoarthritis in my hip, GAD, and I hated running - possibly because, years ago, men in passing cars thought it acceptable or flattering to heckle/letch at women out jogging. I felt threatened and it was a horrible experience. So I tried running 'with' my OH who left me for dust, waited, and then set off again just before I could catch up. Equally horrible. I also believed I shouldn't run because of damaging my joints. But they're stuffed now anyway, and evidence points towards careful low-level running being protective even for damaged joints. The support we can have through forums like this is brilliant! Park Run was a complete surprise, everyone was so encouraging! And thank goodness for earbuds and an iPhone - even if some idiot does want to heckle a fat 50 year-old. I am a 3x a week swimmer (medium-speed lanes level) so my aerobic recovery between intervals is pretty good. Also the swimming helps on non-run days. My reason for posting today is because the end W3R2, yesterday was very slightly downhill, and I felt like keeping going after I was supposed to stop! I ran as fast and as far as I could (only another 100m or so) with a big smile on my face Got round a 3.1km circuit in the 30 minutes. When I was 5st lighter I did one of the first 'Race for Life' 5k's 20 years ago in 28min with no training, so I know I can do it, eventually! Good luck everyone with your runs and your programmes and don't give yourselves a hard time if things don't go well for a bit - because if you're out there, walking or running, even for 5 minutes, it beats being slouched on the couch
hi just finished w8r2 - hardest ever as so hot here ! but pleased with 5k in total in just under 39 mins! hubby wants me to do park run tomorrow but I dont quite feel ready for that yet 🏃♀️thisapp is so good - cant believe 8 weeks ago I struggled with 1 minute runs - good luck everyone 🏃♀️🏃👟
Just got back from wk9 r1. Smashed it. So relieved it went better than wk8 r3. Had a look on strava after and split the run from the walking sections and I managed 3.85k in the 30 mins. Also did a lot more stretches before and after and my legs are purring now. Amazing the difference a good run can make 🙂🏃🏻♂️
Due to do W7R3 on Sunday. Still can't believe I've come this far. Hope you are feeling better this week. I think there might have been something in the air last week a lot of people (including me) said they didn't feel well & a woman at work was so nasty she made me cry! I don't usually let things like that get to me but I felt like everything was getting to me last week!
I am..thanks.. the runs and the support lift me back to the running path Folk can be so mean... and for no reason... thanks for your support.. and you will be just fine Sunday! I shall be out there too.. we will run together
Hello, this is the first time I've noticed the weekly chat.
Following a week off, I have completed the first two runs of week 7, progressing steadily.
It doesn't seem to be feeling in any way easy, but there is a great sense of satisfaction at completing each run.
In the beginning I was seriously worried about any sort of gradient, so planned the early routes to keep it flat. Now, I am find with some brief hills; it is tiring once you get to the top, but usually have a flatter section on which to recover.
I am determined to complete the programme and have had a couple of friends say they'll do a park run with me when I complete it.
Finished W3R1 yesterday, and very excited/proud that I could do the 3 min runs! Our office has two treadmills in our big filing room as part of our company's wellness initiative. I sneak back there at the end of the day with only Charlotte-the-filing-clerk as company. Imagine my surprise when she complimented me on doing the snail shuffle for 3 minutes! LOL It gives me hope. I love the support here - you folks have made all the difference for this overage, overweight, slightly creaky gal.
So yesterday I completed Run 1 of Week 3, one week after leaving the IC. I got to week 4 before the injury and the run yesterday felt so easy. I could’ve run further but after the injury I’m following the podcasts to the letter! I can definitely feel my fitness improving. I know I struggled with this run the first time round 👍. Looking forward to run 2 tomorrow 😊.
