Good morning everyone and welcome to a new week.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.

If you're a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi, without the pressure of a full post.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week,

Oldfloss, Ju-ju, Realfoodieclub, Millsie-J and Bluebirdrunner x

Morning all! Well I’m hopefully getting back into a routine after a 2 week break from running. Still feeling very pleased and surprised that I did a 30 min run on Sunday (yes, it wasn’t all a dream, I really did complete C25K two weeks ago!). In an ideal world I would like to hope I could get a run done on Thursday after work but my commute is long and I’ve only once so far managed to do a post commute run. If I don’t do Thursday I’m aiming for Friday when I work from home. Then Sunday again. So not quite 3 runs a week but that was how it went for me throughout the programme, and I still completed it! Happy running everyone!

Great stuff... and great when a plan comes together:)

I graduated in March, thanks to your wise advice about running when old (65). Since then I’ve used Laura’s podcasts for C25k graduates and found them really helpful, though I was a bit disappointed that in 30 to 33mins I never seemed to get further than about 3.6k. But I carried on and on Sunday decided to just keep running and see what happened. I was so thrilled to break the 5k barrier at just under 40 mins. So a great start to the week for me, and hopefully this will encourage other slow but steady types. It can be done!

This is brilliant..very well done... many folk never make the 5K in 30 mark :)

Thank you I’m sure I’ll be one of them! 😉

Ventured out for a run in the rain this morning - I would never have gone out in the rain voluntarily, never mind run in it! prior to completing this programme. Dogs walked after my shower. Seem to have so much more energy these days. Enjoy the rest of your week everyone. Keep well.

morning all :-)

so i went out for my first graduation run today. had to take the week off because of a minor ankle sprain (bloody stone paths!) but i was up and out faster and stronger this morning...5k in 34 minutes - not bad if i do say so myself and i really enjoyed the run too. Its quite odd not having Laura in your ear telling you there is only 5 minutes to go!

Very well done indeed... yes, a few of us got Laura withdrawals:)

I think I posted on the wrong week! I've just done W6R1 today - bit of a sneaky wotsit that one. Luckily I heeded the advice that I'd been given on here - went into it with no expectations & not really thinking about it. Took it slow & steady & got through it. Def not the same high as W5R1 though. Things can only get better.

OOOOO!!!! How exciting!!!! Very well done... slow and steady towards that podium.... the champagne is ready for chilling and the pom poms are at the ready!!

Hello! I’m back running (slowly!) in Week 5, ready for R2 tomorrow. Had a week off due to left knee muscular strain hence the gap-thought I’d sensibly rest as it was painful - glad I did as it now seems to be stronger than ever and hasn’t played up this time! Means I’m behind in my weeks but actually now think that it doesn’t matter and I’m not racing against anyone or even myself!! Would rather complete this amazing programme with intact knees than not at all! Now having 2 day rests between runs instead of 1 to really help with muscle recovery. Read and re-read posts from all of you with similar problems and took advice which helped hugely so thank you! So going even slower and running on softer ground has really paid off. Have a good week everyone!! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏅

Done week 5 run 2 tonight - that was erm interesting....

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Thriftyvickie

Okaaaayyy.. did you do it ?

Thriftyvickie profile image
ThriftyvickieGraduate in reply to Oldfloss

Yes but it seemed really laborious. I think part of it is I find running on a treadmill really boring compared to being outside. Plus I covered a lot more distance in run 1 this week according to my GPS. So not sure how I feel - I did it but I didn’t feel great about it - felt quite anticlimactic

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Thriftyvickie

Right... I think the inside bit makes a difference...I use my cross trainer when the weather is icy.. and I have to watch virtual runs !!

But..you did it:) Can you get out for your next run ?

Thriftyvickie profile image
ThriftyvickieGraduate in reply to Oldfloss

Not unless Friday is a really light night. It's Friday evening hen Sunday would be my next outdoor run

I am going to try W9 again for the third time tomorrow having failed twice. First with injury, second time cooking a tummy bug. Hopefully third time lucky...

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Samarie

No 'f' words please... just a blip or a trial run :) Injury cannot be helped... ( usually) and a bug is a bug.

So... just take your time when you head out, relax and cruise your way towards the podium :)

I followed you advice Oldfloss and have just completed W9R2 at last. It feels so good! One more run to that final run of the program 😀

Hey there, new member here. I wish I signed up earlier, there's loads of great advice here. Big thank you to the HealthUnlocked community. I started back in February and I just finished week 8 run 3. It was super exhausting, and I only just managed to complete it, the last few 0.3k of my run is uphill. Now I have the finale 30 mins next! I love C25k, it completely changed my lifestyle, energy and fitness. I'm a 9-5 office worker, so for me it's Office *Chair to 5k* :-D

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Darude

Brilliant... slow and steady to that podium... and stay with us as you move on too :)

Thanks Oldfloss, will definitely do. Will start week 9 later this sunny evening, motivated and excited now. P.S. Can you pin this thread so it's easier to find? Thank youu :-)

When will my legs want to run as far as my head & lungs? I can cope with my breathing & I enjoy my runs but my legs say ‘no’ after 5k...is it in my head or are my legs learning to be stronger? X

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Mummycav

Your legs are learning.. I have just begun, with my HM plan to up my leg exercises... including using resistance bands hilarious!!! It is beginning to pay off...

The more we run, the better it gets...and it will happen for you. Suddenly you realise you are covering more ground... try not to focus on it... just maybe put some work in on those legs on your rest days?

I use this strength training exercise as part of my rest day routine.. know it by heart now:)

I did my very first run tonight after work (w1r1). It was storming heavily, so I did it on the treadmill. I made every 60 second run, much to my astonishment. And the other fun thing? My new running shoes arrived in the mail! Now, I’m really ready to roll for w1r2. 😁

Oldfloss profile image

Sounds like a great plan.... wear those noo shoos in a tad before doing your run:)

Hi oldfloss I've been following your fab advice of "slow & steady" religiously apart from twice outdoors where I found the transition from tread to outdoors a bit hard. But third attempt was a lot better (on w6r3 this morning)

Do we start to up our pace after we've completed the c25k or do we automatically start to up our pace at a Pacific week of the programme?

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate

Brilliant..😉 just carry on as you are..pace does develop..and after Graduation..so many ways to increase pace and distance..Let things evolve..move at a happy pace..as long as you are not struggling..that is fine. The legs and stamina are still building through C25K..and it goes on😊

Thanks.🌟👏👏

Good recovery, so easy 5.2k mid day today and a pace improvement.Slow, but all PB’s.🤔😂

Maybe beginning to understand the weekly requirements/demands of a 10 k programme and the appropriateness of jumping in.

See how I get on for another month and perhaps consider joining the bridge to 10k group.🤔

Try the plan that ju-ju- does on Bridge...it is excellent.

I just had technical difficulties - last run of week 5 was thinking surely I can’t still have time to go this is the longest last 2 mins ever then realised the app had crashed.

From the data on my fitbit I think I ran 23 mins - got a lot slower funnily enough

Bit frustrated really. On the IC due to bursitis & back issues. ‘Patiently’ waiting for my week of no running to be up. It’s definitely easing up so fingers crossed that by Friday I can judge what best to do. Still being as active as I can, just no running. Had a good gym session yesterday that helped quite a bit.

I think I might give Week 5 Run 3 a go when I first get back to it, whether it be Friday or not. Think another Parkrun will have to wait a bit longer though 😩

Feel a bit like a spectator to all you wonderful runners at the moment!

Oldfloss profile image

The runs will still be there..heal well and keep up that other exercise:)
