Week 6 - Nailed it !

I ran week 6 run 3 yesterday, and it was actually okay! I got up at silly o'clock to run, because it's hot over here at the moment. I kept it slow and steady, I even had enough oomph left to do a little sprint at the end. Now when I say a 'little sprint', it was nothing that the untrained eye would have been able to notice, but I felt myself throwing what energy I had left at it and I felt that I was going faster!

I was actually pleased with myself, I am a returning runner, I used to run 10ks quite happily 4 years ago, but I followed a different running regime. I was originally taught to run 10s and 1s (run 10 minutes walk 1 minute, run 10 walk 1... for the duration of run). So the idea of getting back into running after 4 years off was one thing and then running more than 10 minutes at a time was another issue all together.

I told hubby that I had run 25 minutes, feeling quite chuffed with myself, and all I got was a look that said 'yeah, and... '. Oh well, never mind I'll just celebrate with a cup of tea. I still had my runners high.

I live on a quiet street that runs parallel with a small lake, so the lake lowers the temperature slightly and makes running more bearable in the summer. The road is undulating. A few weeks ago those undulations seemed to be bigger than I remembered them when I ran 4 years ago (especially the uphill ones!). Yesterday though, they felt okay again. Very happy to be getting my runners legs back.

I'm looking forward to week 7, with 3 x 25 minute runs. I'll see if I can improve on the distance I manage to fit into 25 minutes.

Good luck and wishing everyone happy running

i did once about 6 years ago, he insisted I was doing it all wrong. He wanted to show me how to run. So off we want, we were like the tortoise and the hare. I won, he stayed behind grabbing onto a lamp post and gasping for air. I'm still not sure if he was saying 'wait for me' or 'get the AED'.

Well done! I did that one on Friday & I managed to speed it up at the end. I'm doing it all on a treadmill at the gym so I upped it from 7.0 km to 7.2km so like you said - barely noticeable but I felt good about it. I too am returning to running after a year off but I was doing it all wrong before I think! Very different this time. Here's to W7 🥂. Good luck & keep us posted.

I am so glad that you responded. I was wondering how you had got on! I've not been online much last few days.

Glad you managed it okay too. Good luck with next week, keep posting and I will 'follow you'. I'm guessing by your ID that you are in Wales, I'm in Canada - but we can still do this together.

For me running 10s and 1s worked out okay, but it became a complete mindset. Every time I got to 9 minutes I was wanting my 1 minute walk break. I think I always talked myself into needing a walk break.

good luck!

Exactly! & i think maybe - the walking & running is more tiring?! Unfortunately no - i’m half Welsh - my dad was Welsh but i am UK born & bred! Although my heart will always be in Wales & i go fairly often as i have family there. Good luck on your journey- I’m hoping to do W7R1 today.
