I need better trainers, I run on the outside of my right foot getting pain into the outside of my leg. As the run went on got really bad pins and needles, I think I am doing my trainers too tight but loosening them they slip. Also perplexed running more time but less distance, overall under 3k.

Hello Caro71 ! Now I'm not a running expert by any means, but I know when I got new trainers whilst in the earlier stages of couch to 5k, it made a huge difference. It sounds like you might benefit from gait analysis, places like Runners Need or your friendly local running shop might do it, I'm possibly going to get it done tomorrow, then you can get trainers which support your feet properly, so that the force is going straight up and down your leg, rather than at an angle, which I suspect can cause all sorts of joint issues. Just search for "pronating" on Google.

Gait analysis, btw, is where you run for a short time on a treadmill whilst they video how you run.

Good luck, really well done for making week 2, you've already done brilliantly, but get your gait checked, you don't want to get injured this early in the game. Cautionary tale: I picked up an injury about half way through, and never really rested it for long enough for it to go away completely, so I had to take a couple of weeks off after completing W9!!!

All the best, Neil

Thank you for the advice. Do you think I can count the short run on the treadmill. Sarah would agree pet

I've got awful feet. Flat, bunions, very wide! I went to a local shop that did gait analysis and got new runners. They weren't cheap but the hip pain I had after week 2 disappeared overnight and my feet ache much less than usual. If you have dodgy feet you need decent footwear.

Thank you, I have looked into gait analysis and think this is a way to go. I have stretched out a lot but still uncomfortable. I think it is right to get better footwear to protect the body and keep moving with this process because in a masochistic way it's ok. Will I be saying that in another week or so?? Happy running

The shop I went to also gave me a series of strengthening exercises. Was well worth the visit!
