Week 1 completed!

I've completed week 1! However I really don't see how I will ever be able to run for 30 minutes without stopping.. 60 seconds is hard enough! Please tell me it's possible!

I'm young and not overweight but I have asthma so I struggle a bit with getting out of breath.. any tips?

Determined not to give up but part of me thinks it's impossible! 😩

Hello! Well done on completing the hardest week! I know what you mean. I felt the same in w1 and running for 30 mins seemed impossible. But it’s really not. Take it easy on the runs and stick to the plan. Might be an idea to talk to your doc about your asthma but the idea is that you run slowly enough to be able to chat as you run so if you are getting a bit breathless now you should try to take a bit of speed off. Slow is good!

Thank you! Thanks for the advice I will definitely try to slow down a bit think I might be trying to go too fast too soon.

Don’t worry, Most people do that and when they take a touch of speed off everything becomes a little easier. Good luck!

Sure it’s possible! Just nice and steady and stick to the program. I am old and overweight (although your asthma trumps my hay fever) and I can now run for a straight 25 min on wk7. I was probably struggling more than you in week 1. At first I couldn’t run 60 seconds. You will get there, just trust the voices in your head(phones). If you’re struggling breathing, just slow down a bit. You will find as you move through the program your lungs will get used to it and your breathing will improve. You never know, it might help with the asthma 🙂

Thank you! Its good to know that others have been in my position and struggled at the beginning and are now running for that long - well done to you!

I will try to slow down and not give up!

I’m on week 5 Mandy and I was so out of breath after a minute of jogging on wk 1 it’s weird how your body just adapts and get stronger week on week. You can do this!!!!

That's good to know that you felt the same in your first week. Well done! :)

Follow the program and slow down. I'm 45 and have never run but now on wk4 r2. Next week I'll be doing 8 min runs and I'm not scared because I'm in control of how fast I run and it's not a run it's a jog. Don't give up 😁

You can do this... take it steady and slow:) Just follow the plan and keep posting:)

I felt like that in week1 ..maybe because I was trying to go too fast ..still slow but not slow enough..have had to learn to go really slowly and amazed myself tonight on first run of Wk3 ..running error 3 minutes ! We have to keep moving..no matter how slowly whilst we improve🤩

Well I am 64 and I too struggled in week 1 and felt the same. Hadn’t run for 25 years , never did any sport at school, just decided to run for about 4 years in my early 40s ( to get a break from the kids at teatimes) and then stopped again.

When I started I was getting over a nasty bout of flu and coughed and wheezed all through my runs. Ended up with inhalers from dr and got on a bit better after that but I still felt like I’d never make it. I run with my daughter who is half my age and there were times when I nearly gave up BUT I didn’t !!

Take the advice of people on the forum, read the other posts and you will see most people feel the same at first but you WILL make it. The best advice ? RUN SLOWER and if you still struggle run slower still. I’ve struggled passing school kids on their way to school before and THEY were dawdling.

I’m on Week 9 now and running for 30 mins. Good luck

Thank you so much! It's good to hear that other people also struggled in week 1 and they've made it to week 9, I won't give up now knowing that. Well done to you, that's amazing!

I'll definitely try to go slower :)

My first post was the same... Asking if I can do the plan being asthmatic. Have a look at it as there were some really positive replies. I was a purple sweaty wheezing mess after week one... Plus unfit and 4 stone overweight... And would never in a million years believed that 5 weeks on I would come back from a 20 minute run feeling amazing and not needing my inhaler!!! I've not run in over 30 years since leaving school!! Honestly, trust the plan, your asthma may well improve as mine has, and you will do this! Slow and steady all the way, don't rush, my hubby walks with me as I run! (Running actually means jogging slowly on this forum 😃). Keep us posted!

Thank you for the help, I will read your post.

Wow good to know it has improved your asthma, hopefully the same happens with me.

Well done to you, I won't give up now knowing other people felt the same as me in the beginning.

Will definitely try to take it slower, perhaps ive been going too fast too soon

Same as everyone else said. Week 1 and 2 nearly killed me. I made the mistake of looking at the plans for future weeks. 5 min? 8 min runs? No way.

Did a 20 min run today. This programme WILL get you there. Trust it. And as everyone says, it’s not about speed. Slow slow slow while you build up. If I can do it, anyone can. 😂😂
