I'm about to start W6R1 & I've noticed that now the runs are getting longer my ankle has started to twinge slightly. I have got a bit of a weakness there but have never injured it seriously. It's not my Achilles - it's more at the side & front. Was chatting to a couple of runners at work this morning & everyone has said the same thing - it's my trainers. Just wanted to get you opinions?

Sounds like a need for gait analysis!
If you haven't already been fitted with a gait analysis welshwitch, your footwear must be the place to start. Go to a proper running shop where the staff are trained and usually runners themselves. Take your running shoes, wear clothes you can run in, and get their input, re your ankle... they will film you on the treadmill and see how your foot strikes the ground..
Running shoes should usually be at least half a size bigger than your normal shoe size, as your feet expand and the laces shouldn't be too tight but double knotted.
If you have a weakness then specific exercises and/or an ankle support may be an idea...do get professional advice about this first though...
Good luck and hope your ankle settles down.😊x
Thank you for the advice. I had a bad experience with gait analysis with the shoes I currently have - I’m pretty sure i was ripped off so it could well be my shoes. Trouble is it has made me a bit wary of gait analysis & I haven’t had my current shoes that long. Would have to justify new running shoes to husband on a short fuse & these ones cost me over £100! Mind you if it’s a case of running or not running then i will do whatever it takes!
Oh, sorry to hear that😐, do you think it worth you going back to them with your niggle as they sold you expensive shoes. Was it a specialist running shop?
I have had a weakness in my ankle before, but it has sorted itself out. I don't wear heels at all.
Hope you get this settled.😊x
It was a shop called Sweatshop. They are a chain & got taken over by sports direct (ugh!) they’ve gone now - well gone from Bluewater shopping centre which is where i got them. There are others in my area. Think i will see how it goes. It’s not too bad - just a niggle. Everyone seems to think it’s prob the shoes. I try to vary my heel height. I wear heels to work - but i walk there & back in trainers - not the ones i wear for running & i’m only at work 3 days a week so I don’t think it’s that. It’s literally since i’ve been running for longer. If it gets worse i will stop running & go & see my acupuncturist to get his opinion then take it from there. Thanks for your advice.
I use to talk about my niggly ankle about three weeks ago and once I got new shoes it did help. I am lucky to have a friend who is a sports physio and she has been working her magic on my ankle once a week and the problem has got a load better. Im lucky because I get that attention as a freebie.
Ha ha! Nice to have a friend like that. My acupuncturist does sports massage too & he’s quite reasonably priced. Also someone at work hurt their knee (they are following this programme but don’t think that’s how they hurt their knee - mind u - she did buy her trainers in Lidl!). Anyway- she told me that we can get physio advice for free at work so i might give that a go too. As i said - i will monitor & see how it goes. Thanks for the advice - i knew this forum was the right place to come!
