Return to running

First run after not doing so for 6 years. Ran xc, swam, track in high school but gave it up since then. It was rather disheartening to go out and barely be able to complete a mile before my body couldn't take it. Goal is to get to 2 miles next week and working on refinding my running form this Thursday.

Hi and welcome.... :)

I am not surprised your body complained.... !! Goodness... !

This is a forum that follows and supports C25K.... check this out :)

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

A nine week programme, structured, steady and safe... and one which will get you to 30 minutes of comfortable happy running... and maybe even reaching 5K.

It is one that is fun to do and each and every runs builds on the one before... rest days are non negotiable and the mantra here is, slow and steady :)

Si..if you want to get back to running, enjoyably and injury free, this is the place for you :)

Welcome to the forum.

As Oldfloss says, this forum is supporting those undertaking Couch to 5k, a structured training plan to get you running non stop for thirty minutes. You are doing exactly what I did before I discovered this amazing programme. Just heading out without structure and guidance is frustrating because you have no idea of progress.

Read the guide healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and you will discover that it is very different to randomly running as far as you can.

You may feel, as I did, that the early weeks are too simple, but take on board that to be a good runner you need to do more than run. Your rest days from running give you the opportunity to build other parts of your body to better support your running and general fitness.

In the end, I followed the plan to the letter and was amazed at the progress that I made. Don't be in too much of a hurry, it takes months of graduated progression to build a runner's body and short cuts are littered with injured and dejected runners.

Take care.
