Week 3 Recap

Run 1

Left the apartment at 6.40am in order to beat the heat... but it was already 26 degrees πŸ˜‚. Leaving the building was like walking out and into a sauna.

Locals were again gathered early in the park for their morning tai chi. Today's addition was a boom box playing Chinese opera. Never been a fan of it, but it is preferable to week 3's music.

Shuffled along for the new 3 minute runs, enjoying the scenery and new challenge. Managed all the runs quite well, but still felt plenty puffed.

Run 2

Morning run again with 25 degrees temps. Lovely breeze though and regretted wearing shorts instead of leggings, which I am more comfortable in. Did my usual 5kms around the park, walking on after I'd done the training with Laura. Already looking forward to week 4 challenge.

Run 3

28 degrees. Trying out different fabrics to see what works best in the heat. Probably doomed whatever i choose. πŸ˜¬β˜€οΈ Very jealous of all the men (passing me ha) running wearing only their shorts. Feel totally overdressed for the occasion.

Working on keeping my focus on my (super slow) pace, breathing, and keeping my poor inflamed shoulders relaxed and low. The mechanics of trying to move myself in an optimal way, especially in this heat, means I barely wonder how much longer for each run. I just obey Laura, and start and stop when she says.

Noticeably faster cardio recovery time at the end of the session. Rewarded myself with ice cold water from vending machine at km 4. Slow walk for the final km walk home, hydrating and loving the feeling of completing another week πŸ˜€ πŸ’ͺ

Again, I'm sweating just reading thisπŸ˜“πŸ˜“

Are you able to use your own playlist?

I know not everyone can use/get the one you app, but it's worth a look.

Well done for getting through the heat, what a workout πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

Yeah it's getting pretty brutal out there! Looks like I picked the wrong season to start shuffling πŸ˜€ Can't use my own playlist at the moment, will be able to from W5 R3 I think it is, when I won't necessarily need the podcast, just the timer on my watch. Can't access the app from Asia unfortunately. Hope you're doing ok on the IC? x

Hoping to see a sports physio tomorrow for an assessment. I don't think it's a forever injury, but it's frustrating when you just want to get on with it.

I'm going for a long walk any minute now, ( it's pleasantly warm here for a change 🀩)

Oh that's great you're seeing a physio. Fingers crossed for you it's a manageable issue with speedy resolution. It is frustrating... I get that (frozen shoulder here, all I can do is walk/shuffle) 😯 A long walk and some warm (!!) air will make the world seem a much better place. Enjoy.

And keep us posted on physio analysis...

Hello, not sure about the boom box and opera, but I guess it beats the rubbish coming out of the skateboarders boom box on my run through the park yesterday. Seriously I don’t know how you are going to run in those temperatures. Crikey! I bought myself some fleecy lined leggings in the weekend in preparation for winter, great tip by the way ta very much, but yesterday was positively balmy at 15! so they will wait. Could you wear cotton cycling shorts (knee length?) with shorts over those, or would you cook in those? Have a great week 4. 😎

Bwahaha skateboarders' boom box. What were they listening to?? I actually liked the Chinese opera, they were all so attuned to it, and it did distract me for a bit as I went by in slow motion lol. I am getting a bit worried about the heat. I 'ran' in lycra cycling shorts the other day and they were ok. Cotton would prob be cooler, although lycra is more comfy. Fleecy leggings will be the way to go for NZ for sure. You may need to double up on the layers though :D

Not sure what it was, but it was the kind of music that sounds so angry (showing my age here) it was so loud it made me feel like my heart was about to pop or praps that was just because I was at the end of my run and I was tired. I hope you find something cooler soon. Hong Kong is soooooo hot

Congratulations Dee!

Great work finishing the week, especially in the heat.

I would have thought that shorts would work better, as I heat up more quickly when I have my legs covered.

One thing you could try is the Under Armour base layer. I have some of their cold weather base layer, but they also do a warm weather set to help cool you down.

Enjoy the rest days and good luck next week.

Thanks, Rob! Shorts would be a LOT better, it's my own stupid hang up about showing my legs in public lol. Although with all the half naked men running around today, nobody would blink an eye. I've been trying to find a local runners forum to get tips for running in the heat, but they're all for trail runners who do crazy stuff like 40km runs up mountains.

Thanks for the Under Armour tip - I'll definitely look into what they're offering. Most womens' shorts in stores are short-shorts, and I want something a bit longer. Shame I don't sew...

Thank you! Yes, it was a bit of a challenge. I've decided no more long walks after Laura now. Straight back home after the session!
