Went out at 7.30am this morning. Still finding it hard. When I used to run at the gym, found it so much easier than now. Maybe it’s because I’m doing road jogging

Hi Wk3R2

You must remember “Rome wasn’t built in a day” take it easy and don’t be so hard on yourself. I suppose you’re like all of us that aren’t used to being sick. I walk a lot and that helps me.

One day at a time. You’d be surprised on how well you can feel just by doing a little everyday.

Good luck and good health always.

Just remember you’re not alone.

Regards josephinef 😊

Hi Molliem00

I was right there with you doing Wk3R2 outside at 7.30am this morning. I’m struggling a bit with knee pain already, so have just been printing out the NHS recommended knee exercises after doing the post run stretches they suggest.

The advantages of C25K and running outside that I’m finding so far are that I just listen to Laura’s podcasts and really aim to keep my speed down, and try to concentrate more on taking short, light steps. My last year’s attempts to run (after about 30 years) on a treadmill in a gym just had me turning the treadmill up, running flat out for 10 mins - with my attempts to strike my feet down “mid foot” resounding with a mighty “thud” every step - and my fused neck, that hates impact, promptly locking my whole spine up!

So I’m promising myself that I will ignore whoever is going past, and whenever I start feeling even a bit out of breathe I just remind myself to slow down more. I figure speed can come later if I can get a technique going that my body can cope with.

I’m not out running again until Monday, due to plotting 2 days of hillwalking over the BH, so good luck if you are finishing Wk3 over the weekend! (I’m still nervously eyeing up the sudden jump to 20mins of running at the end of Wk5, but I’m hoping I’ll feel more ready for it after another couple of weeks of progress!)

Thanks. Bank Holiday weather looking good so far over here! 😊😎🌟

I got quite excited to see someone else doing the same run this morning. It makes you feel less like you’re on your own doing this.

And yes, seeing other people’s threads on here, I think that’s probably our best answer to whenever we feel things are getting too hard - just slow right down. As long as we build up stamina to run for longer, speed can be increased later.

I prefer the gym. Mainly coz on the treadmill I can go at a steady pace. When I Road run I tend to go to fast & I just can't slow myself down!
